Predators one-hand-on-the-stick method never gives them good control of the puck. And Rinne sucks.
The Penguins were clearly the better team in this and the previous game, but I think most of the blame for the losses goes to Rinne. GET BACK IN THE FUCKING NET, RINNE!
Grats, Penguins.
Yay Pens! Pens looked very good, but Predators were in it to the very end. Think referee blew it (pardon the pun) on that disallowed goal. But when the Predators couldn’t convert the 5-on-3, you could see the Pens just executing better, and make that 1-0 goal almost inevitable.
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! I don’t think I could’ve survived if we went to Game 7. My nerves were wrecked enough as it is. I also find it amusing that the same year Sidney Crosby was picked first by the Pens, Hornqvist went dead last – and by the Pred, no less.
Holy shit, I’m watching the local news and you should see see Phil Bourque’s beard. He almost looks like Grizzly Adams.
Disallowing that goal was total BS. After all the skirmishes that have happened in front of the net during the series, for the ref to blow the whistle that quick is outrageous. That changed the game. The Preds were robbed.
The refereeing during this series was abysmal. I mentioned earlier the crosschecking. There was Cole clearly crosschecking a Pred in the back at least three times then he chases him to the boards and crosschecks him in the back twice more.
I usually watch the awarding of the Cup no matter who wins. I couldn’t watch this one.
Surprised Crosby got the MVP.
I thought Nashville had him bottled up pretty good throughout the series.
In 6 games he gets one break-away goal and 6 assists.
I’d have thought Malkin or Guentzel for sure.
I thought both teams had some very very good chances and was half convinced that due to the goalies playing out of their minds the game would go into multiple overtimes.
I am still not sure why the Nashville goal was disallowed. The explanation given was “the ref lost sight of the puck and blew the whistle. Since the puck went in after the whistle, it wasn’t a goal”. Huh? I’m sure I’ve not watched as much hockey as some people, but I’ve never heard of a stoppage in play because the ref didn’t know where the puck was. Is that not his job? The only reason he’s there? What distracted him? I don’t remember any flying catfish at that time that might have caught his attention… Can anyone name some other instances/stats of this? Or does it happen all the time and doesn’t get attention because there aren’t disallowed goals?
Nashville gets 4 power plays and zero penalties? Were the refs trying to make up for the disallowed goal? As much as the NHL tries to claim they don’t want the game to revolve around the refs, they do a shitty job of it. The officiating in every series I’ve seen this playoffs sucked. I’m pretty sure the local high school refs could do better officiating [/ref-rant]
That said, Nashville did a lot less clutching and grabbing than they have the previous games. Not that they’ve gotten penalized for any of it. I did see a few cheap shots by the Pens in the last couple games. They decided to get more aggressive in game 5 and continued it in game 6.
So Pekka stopped a lot of good chances and only let in one at the end. Kind of a shame. Although one team has to win, it wasn’t his and game 6 was lost because of the one goal he let in. I hope he doesn’t get villified in Nashville, I don’t think he deserves that.
All in all, I am happy the series is over, happy the Pens won and we don’t have to wait until Wednesday for the final. Also a Nelson point and “ha-ha” to the Crosby haters. Still considering this my last season as a NHL fan. But I’ll see how I feel next season…
The Conn Smythe Trophy is for the MVP of the entire playoffs, not the Finals series. Murray didn’t even play in the first two rounds and you have to win those ones just as much as the last one.
Crosby, Malkin and Guentzel would all have been good choices. I would have voted for Guentzel.
Do they consider motivations and behind the scenes team mate stuff? Or only on-ice actions? I know a lot of the Pens have said Crosby is very inspirational and they consider him a major leader in the locker room. Also, when Crosby was injured in his head last series and there was a possibility that he might be out for a while, the team claimed to win their next game for him.
I could also have seen Malkin taking it, since he’s (according to other players) a lot more vocal and motivational in the locker room than he has been in the past.
Okay. I’ll stand corrected. I forgot that Andre-Fleury got replaced. He’s probably off to Vegas. So, I’ll go with Guentzel. Honorable Mention should go to Subban, not necessarily for his play but the two most interesting events of the series, his interview of Fisher and the Listerine comment.
It’s rule #81 in the NHL rule book, “Puck out of sight”: Should a scramble take place or a player accidentally fall on the puck and the puck be out of sight of the Referee, he shall immediately blow his whistle and stop the play. The puck shall then be faced-off at the point where the play was stopped unless otherwise provided for in the Rules.
