2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Not sure how to remedy the rule. The 1st issue with retraining the refs to delay the whistle would be players taking a whack at the goalie if they think the puck is loose between his legs somewhere or such. Strict enforcement of goaltender interference should help remedy that-maybe.

I’ve been complaining about quick whistles for years (this became especially enraging in 2013, when my Senators went out of the playoffs due to a quick whistle wiping out a goal in a 1-0 game). The NHL could solve the problem if they cared, but they don’t. (I believe this is pretty much the motto of the NHL when it comes to officiating and discipline)

How could the league solve the problem? Are you suggesting that the rule should not be that the official blow the whistle when he loses sight of the puck? Or that if he does and the puck then goes in that the whistle is ignored? I don’t see how this would work.

When goals are denied because the goalie was (or wasn’t) interfered with, or because someone was (or wasn’t) offsides several passes earlier – those are problems that the league had better fix, and soon.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: hockey is a very fast sport. Decisions have to be made within a second. It’s very easy to sit in front of a 50 inch HDTV and complain about a missed call after watching a replay from 6 different angles, but it doesn’t unwind like that on the ice.

The referees are top-notch and, yes, they will miss an occasional call. Also, there really is a desire to just let the players play without calling every little minor infraction, especially in the playoffs, because otherwise there would be a penalty every 90 seconds over some inconsequential shove. It would kill the game, so they let the players play and police themselves.

I hated that the Preds weren’t credited with that goal, but once I saw the replay and read the text of the rule, I had to admit the ref did the right thing. I also had to admit that the rule is a good one with a good purpose.

And yeah, I agree with Leaffan: it’s not the same sitting at home as it is being on the ice with all that mayhem around you.

In signing off from this thread, I leave you with…

(quite humoured by Kunitz, who in turn was quite humoured by PK at 0:18). ETA: I could soooooo see Mr. Galifinakis doing a pretty good rendition of said hissy fits.

Still rattled to the core by Listerinegate.

Well, Fleury is now a Golden Knight. And I’m crying. (As is most of Pens Nation)

Inevitable though. Murray is the future.

I wore my Elmira Jackals jersey. RIP team.

I thought the Las Vegas Knights did a very good job with the expansion draft. They got a couple of very good players, a lot of young but solid talent that I think will make an excellent nascent peer group for the team’s start. They got enough journeymen/veterans to help school the younger guys and they got a bunch of excellent picks in both the 2017 and future drafts. And Fleury will put butts in the seats.

And yeah, a couple of times we heard someone on stage say “Las Vegas Knights”.

Oh absolutely, and if I were Rutherford, I’d have made the same decision. He’d be crazy to choose Fleury over Murray. I just hate seeing him go. He’s one of my favorite players and I’m really going to miss him. :frowning:

Hall of Fame player inductees this year: Teemu Selanne, Dave Andreychuk, Mark Recchi and Paul Kariya.
Great choices.

Ex-Oilers tough guy Dave Semenko dies of cancer at 59.

Back when teams absolutely, and unfortunately needed an enforcer.

Shit, 59 is way too young.

Nooo! Not good ol’ Cement Head? 59 is far too young.
