The list is out of next year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees:

Bon Jovi
Kate Bush
The Cars
Depeche Mode
Dire Straits
Eurythmics
J. Geils Band
Judas Priest
LL Cool J
MC5
The Meters
Moody Blues
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine

Nina Simone
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Link Wray
The Zombies

Let the arguing begin!

Not a list of Hall of Famers, just some famous bands that range up to the Hall of the Very Good. Maybe 2 exceptions.
**
Dire Straits** is borderline to me. Probably not Hall of Fame worthy.

Moody Blues, I’m surprised they’re not in yet. Is this tied to the Anti-Prog Rock attitude of the Hall?

It wouldn’t surprise me. But, with ELO, Yes, and Rush all having made it in over the past few years, maybe they stand a chance.

I agree, there’s a lot of “Hall of the Very Good” acts in here, and several performers that I just don’t know a lot about.

The fact that Sister Rosetta was not inducted in the first year is a crime and a shame.

Fight some ignorance here please.I just don’t know that much about her in the end.

I know she was a precurser to Rock & Roll; but was she really Rock & Roll? Or do you think her importance to helping to create/inspire Rock is enough to put her in.

It’s the Moodies that aren’t Hall-worthy. Neither, IMO, are The Cars, J. Geils, Radiohead, or Judas Priest.

Dire Straights, OTOH, should be a lock, and Mark Knopfler should also be inducted as a solo artist.

She was definitely Rock’n’Roll. Watch this video, especially from a minute and a half in:

Seriously? Judas Priest is one of the most influential bands ever. You know how, in just about every field, there’s the guy who invents something, and then another guy who comes along and perfects that thing and sets the standard? In the case of heavy metal, those two would be Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. JP established the “twin lead guitar attack” that has become de rigeur in most varieties of metal. Rob Halford is called “The Metal God” for a reason: he set the standard for metal vocalists. And don’t forget that JP also essentially invented the “look” of heavy metal, with all the black leather and spikes.

IMHO (in order of necessity),

The Meters
J. Geils Band
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Link Wray
The Zombies

The rest can wait. The whole thing’s a joke, but if Bon Jovi gets in this year ahead of the bands I mentioned, that’ll just confirm it.

A thread I started on her years ago: Guitar Players: A Lesson on How it's Done - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board

I do have to confess that I have never heard of The Meters.

The Moody Blues should have been inducted ages ago. They’re the biggest no brainers on this list.

After that, I’d pick Dire Straits, Judas Priest, the Cars, and the Zombies.

I rest my case. :stuck_out_tongue:

No Weird Al. Totally bogus.

She was definitely Rock’n’Roll. Watch this video, especially from a minute and a half in:

[/QUOTE] That guitar solo is clearly rock, and note the Peter-Townsend-like windmill at 1:48.

Moody Blues, Link Wray, and the Zombies should definitely be in. J. Geils is borderline.

Definitely! She is the connection from Gospel/Blues and Rock and needs to be honored.

New Orleans gunslingers, including a bunch of Neville brothers. Listen to Cissy Strut. Sublime funk.

But it would be worth it for the Jon/Ritchie drama.
Voting in Radiohead fits how I think most of the voters feel. They will of course refuse to show up. I hope whoever plays for them does Creep to piss them off.

Here’s the list:

Bon Jovi
The Cars
Dire Straits
J. Geils Band
Judas Priest
MC5
Moody Blues
The Zombies

Let the arguing stop!

Here’s my vote:
