2020 POTUS Debate 2 (22 October) follow-along and discussion thread

Biden did stutter a bit. That occasionally happens with people who battle with stuttering. Anyone who tries to make an issue about Biden stuttering tonight is a hole of the ass.

I think it only matters (which overstates it) inasmuch as it was an indication that Trump was getting under Biden’s skin.

I heard it on the radio and came to confirm that I didn’t just imagine that…

Trump is a certified bastard. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Obviously somebody other than Trump sent out that tweet. But to do so while the debate is still going on?

Someone should have pointed out how he didn’t even come close to answering the premise of the question. In a perfect world the moderator would have said “I asked how you would address the American people at your inauguration, what the fuck are you talking about?”

I LOL’d when Trump went on his “Russia Russia Russia” rant. Dude, your own Director of National Intelligence just went on the air and told the nation Russia was trying to internet with this election!!

Oh my Lord Og, can this guy get more stupid???

Well, no. It wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that Black men and women were able to vote without all the clever restrictions like literacy tests that were designed to disenfranchise them. Supposedly Native Americans got the right to vote in 1924 when the Snyder Act was passed. However, there were disingenuous ways to keep First Nations people from voting, too. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 eliminated the last obstacles that kept Black AND Native peoples from voting freely.

Yes. Yes he can and will. There’s no bottom on that hole.

Well, yes. It was 1870. A black man could vote since then. There were lots of hurdles as you mention which didn’t get swept away till 1965 but the correct answer remains 1870.

Some of those “hurdles” were more like 100 ft brick walls covered in razor wire and machine gun nests.

Because of Kennedy’s brain cancer, and Franken not being seated for months, they had a filibuster proof window of something like a month.

I have to admit that apparently Trump can speak for two minutes straight and sound relatively coherent; at least, if one doesn’t require truth to be part of coherence.

I was wondering whether anybody else heard that. – I see that GIGObuster heard it too (post 303.)

And were temporary holding, not extended, due to a sudden increase in unaccompanied teens (not accompanied toddlers) coming across and overwhelming the standard facilities.

I feel stoopeder for watching that. Fuck it. I voted a week ago, and it was never in question.

So this (aimed at Trump):

Yep. They didn’t expect Kennedy to be replaced with a Republican, so there was no rush to tweak the two versions. Then they lost the 60th Senate vote, so they had to pass the Senate version in the house. AIUI, there was a separate bill passed via reconciliation that tweaked the law.

Are you equally upset about the dozen tweets that Biden’s team put out during the debate?

Seriously - it happens every debate. It’s not a big deal.

OK, so… - objectively - who won?

I’m seeing a conservative message board absolutely nuts, claiming Trump whooped Biden, and then plenty of people of other persuasion saying not so fast, Biden was solid and firm while Trump was scatterbrained.

Well, how many points did each team get, and who got the sportsball to the end of the zone the most times?

I mean, what do you mean “objectively”?

ETA: This is a game of popularity, and I don’t think either of them moved the needle. It’s a draw.

If you ignore Trump’s lies and just go with who dominated the debate I’d have to give the nod to Trump. He really beat up Biden with his 90’s crime bill and Biden was wholly ineffective at pointing out Trump’s lies and making that stick (he’d say something about it but never really landed anything). You could also see Trump getting Biden agitated.

That said, Biden did well enough to see that this debate didn’t sway anyone which is probably what Biden wanted out of it. He knows he will never get the MAGA people. He just needed to keep what he’s got and he did that.

So, tactical win for Trump, strategic win for Biden.

Just my $0.02

What happened to packing the Supreme Court? Wasn’t Trump supposed to push Biden for an answer on that?
