And Jill was quite a looker back in the day (still is).
Yes! A good visual tour of the country, and it was a nice touch to have the vertical signboards for each state visible. The lady in Illinois had the Old Statehouse in Springfield behind her - the same historic site where Lincoln often practiced as a lawyer before the state supreme court, and served in the state legislature; and the place where Obama introduced Biden as his running mate in 2008.
Did you notice Sen. and Mrs. Sanders in the right background when the Vermont delegate reported?
I particularly liked Ohio’s two-person report. O-H! I-O!
The roll call is always my favorite thing about the convention. I liked having a variety of people announcing the results even though some of them are clearly not polished speakers. I guess I am one of the few that still resents Bernie for insisting that his name be placed in nomination and that his delegate totals be read. I get it, he wants his supporters to know that they have been heard, but this year in particular it is so important that the party be unified that it seems like an unnecessary ego boost for him. However, hearing his wife tell him to stand up straight right before his speech yesterday was hysterical.
Today there were certainly some awkward moments. I think the Republicans will benefit from seeing how the Democrats managed the virtual platform. I suspect that they will do the roll call the same way.
Jill Biden was great. I have to agree that she was stunningly beautiful in those old pictures but it was great to see all of her sisters. I also started to tear up when they talked about their sons having a Mom and a Mommy. It’s such a contrast to the Trump family.
Bill Clintons speech did absolutely nothing. He used be such a dramatic speaker.
God, he looks old.
I guess if he had a crowd it would’ve been better. And probably waaaayyy too long.
I’m a roll call buff, too. Always liked the flourishes that each state person adds… “The great state of Florida casts sixty one sunshine votes for…” This was cool in its own way, I did notice the old state capitol in Illinois. Nice to see the territories join in and show us a little glimpse. That might be the first time I’ve ever seen anything from Northern Marianas for example.
Tonight is Harris’ night, hope she has a good one.
No, no, they will improve on it, do it a million times better, show the Dems how it should have been done, humiliate the Dems, grind them in the dust…! <slaps self in the face> Sorry. Got swept up in the moment.
I wish people would stop pretending they are voting for Biden because hes the best candidate. Hes not mentally competent it everyone knows it. Hes just being used. Its sad. People would probably vote for Harvey W than Trump
Besides having three words lacking apostrophes and an extraneous word in the second sentence, this post makes no sense. I am no pretending, I’m voting for Biden because he is the best candidate. He is not a gifted public speaker, but his mind is sound. He is not being used, he is coming forward to rid the nation of a corrupt wannabe dictator. The polls show him with a strong lead, showing people prefer him to Donald as well as Harvey W.
Not sure why they gave AOC so little time. Whether the establishment likes it or not, she is hugely popular in progressive circles and the face of the future Democratic party. I’m glad they allowed Bernie and Elizabeth Warren a platform, but to mostly ignore such a source of energy, enthusiasm and the avatar for young voters just seems like a miscalculation to me.
I’m not sure who “Harvey W” is. Is he the invisible rabbit from the Jimmy Stewart movie? Still, even if that’s the case, I would almost certainly choose Harvey W over Trump if those were my choice.
But - I’m voting for Biden because he has a solid platform and goals that align with mine in direction (if not necessarily in magnitude), he has a deep understanding of both domestic and international policy and politics and the ability to apply that knowledge, he thinks about and cares for American people and makes thoughtfully considered decisions with their best interest in mind - so that even when I disagree with his decisions, I don’t doubt his motives.
And also, of the candidates - he’s the best candidate.
Back to the thread - it was also good to hear from Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter. And I loved that their endorsement was also a policy statement to take care of healthcare workers.
Straight up, Biden IS the best candidate that has a chance of winning. And everyone knows it.
I may not be excited for him. You know what else I’m not excited by? Chemotherapy. But if there’s a giant malignant tumor in my stomach (or in the White House), you better believe I’m gritting my teeth, cussing a lot, and shooting that shit straight into my veins (or checking that box on the ballot).
And in neither case do I need to think twice, and if someone says to me, “How can you choose chemotherapy, don’t you know that makes your hair fall out?” I’m going to be less than impressed with their reasoning.
In addition to the gun-brandishing St. Louis couple who threatened peaceful protesters, the GOP convention will also feature a speech from Smirky McSmirkface, the little prick who got in the face of a Native American protester. Who else will we see? Roger Stone? Dylann Roof?
Damnit… AOC is my hero, but they hate her. It’s so obvious to me that they don’t want progressives in their party. That’s one reason why I’m not voting for Joe. I mean, I live in New York, so I don’t feel the pressure to.
F the Democrats… Because they’re basically saying the same thing to me.
(Yes, I would vote for Biden if I lived in a swing state… but I’m getting sick of defending these asshats. They are way out of touch with common people. ‘Celebrity’ isn’t what it once was. No one cares about Bill Clinton aside from wanting answers to questions about SEX WITH CHILDREN. Having the keynote cringingly read by everyone was stupid. The music video are horrible.)
Who cares what they want? Progressivism is what they’re getting. The voters have spoken. Because of folks like Sanders and AOC (and many more), Biden’s platform is the most progressive Democratic platform in history.
I mean… Technically that’s true. But I could say that Barack Obama’s was the most progressive at the time.
It’s just that the resistance is so blatant, they know why people would be upset that AOC was only given 90 seconds. They don’t care… So under different circumstances why would I vote for them?
