Harry Brant, a socialite and style setter, was found dead at 24 after an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

(Never heard of him but his death warranted a prominent obit in the NYTimes)

The AP story describes him as a “rising model”.

I guess fashion people knew who he was. Doesn’t seem like he would have reached any sort of fame if he didn’t have rich parents. His mother was Stephanie Seymour.

Don Sutton, Hall of Fame pitcher for Dodgers, dies at 75.

Aussie news ran with it as “Son of former supermodel dead at 24”, kind of underlining that it’s more who he was related to than any personal fame that made it newsworthy.

Jimmie Rodgers, C&W singer of Honeycomb and Kisses Sweeter Than Wine died Jan. 18 at the age of 87.

Dale Baer, animator for Disney, Peanuts, and the Smurfs.

Bryan Sykes, genetics sequencer who sequenced Otzi the caveman, dead at 73.

ETA: damnit, he died in December. Never mind!

Singer Randy Parton, Dolly Parton’s brother, dies at 67.

The clock runs out for Ted Thompson, former GB Packer General Manager:

Brian

Yet another star from Babylon 5 is gone. Damnit.

B5 has a terrible record for deaths (so does “Angel” but B5 is worse)

I know. I was thinking that as I posted.

Babylon 5 is the new Are You Being Served of cast deaths. I don’t think anyone from AYBS is still alive.

AYBS has a 2-decade advantage on B5, though (and a cast that was elderly when the show began).

Hank Aaron has passed away at the age of 86. RIP, Hammerin’ Hank.

It’s insane, really. Star Trek Next Generation was older, but has everyone for the most part. Babylon 5 has now lost:

Michael O’Hare
Jerry Doyle
Mira Furlan
Richard Biggs
Stephen Furst
Andreas Katsulas
Jeff Conaway
Tim Choate

It’s been a long time since I’ve cried over a celebrity death, but Mira Furlan hit me hard. She and Bruce Boxleitner were the primary reason that Babylon 5 became one of my favorites. Maybe it’s time for that rewatch I keep planning. RIP.
