2022 NBA Playoffs Thread

That’s not what I came up with, going by the box scores. I showed a four-rebound advantage for Boston. Here’s my work; please check it, because I’m not a professional statistician, and I’m terrible at math.

Boston Game 1:

OREB 7, DREB 32

Golden State Game 1:

OREB 12, DREB 27

Boston Game 2:

OREB 6, DREB 37

Golden State Game 2:

6/36

Boston Game 3:

15/32

Golden State Game 3:

6/25

Boston Game 4:

11/31

Golden State Game 4:

16/39

BOSTON OVERALL:

39/132 171 total

GOLDEN STATE OVERALL:

40/127 167 total

It was +1 offensive, sorry - I somehow missed that bit. Not total . Though at Boston +4 the total is fairly tight as well.

I used Excel. Your math is impeccable.

Well, game 5 is starting right now. If the Warriors lose tonight, I figure there’s no way they win the series and it’ll be over in 6 or 7. If the Warriors win it tonight, I don’t feel confident that they’ll take the series. They can lose it in 7. Even though game 7 is in San Francisco.

I’m a little torn because I grew up in the northeast and the Celtics were my team. Havlicek, White, Cowens, Nelson, Silas. But I’ve been living in or near San Francisco for the last 40 years and lately have been following Golden State.

I’ll wait an hour or so before watching it and FF through commercials. This should be a very good game.

Steve Kerr or Ime Udoka: who is the better tactician?

I think whoever loses tonight still has a decent chance to win the series. It’s pretty evenly matched, and home court doesn’t seem to matter too much.

Fantastic win for Golden State tonight, especially with Curry off the mark.

Game 6 goes back to Boston Thursday night.

Last night ended a streak of 132 playoff games for Curry hitting at least one 3-pointer, and a run of 233 consecutive regular-season and postseason games with a 3-pointer. Both of those numbers are NBA records.

If the Warriors win the series, Curry will probably get the MVP (he’s averaging over 30 ppg.) But Wiggins should get a whole lot of consideration as well. He’s the second-leading scorer at 18.4 ppg, and leads in rebounding at 9.4 rebounds per game.

The Charlotte Hornets’ Montrezl Harrell, who will be a free agent this summer, is facing felony drug charges for being caught with three pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana in his trunk during a traffic stop in Kentucky.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

It should absolutely be decriminalized and a potential five years of prison for possession is ridiculous. But man, that’s a lot of weed to be carrying around in a backpack in your backseat.

Actually, he’s been charged with trafficking. It’s a more serious crime than mere possession. Trafficking implies that the police believe he intended to sell it.

Dude has earned over $34 million in his career - he surely doesn’t need to be selling weed for pin money. A normal person with three pounds in his backseat, I can see the thinking. An NBA player, I would be more inclined to guess he was just stocking the cupboard .

Wiggins is playing excellently. After 16 rebounds in game 4 he had 13 last night. And his ability to score is impressive. The Warriors are so fortunate to have picked him up.

Well, it wouldn’t be unprecedented. There was a Bears player a few years back, Sam Hurd, who’s currently in Federal prison for distributing large quantities of coke and weed while on the active roster. Clearly a moronic decision for someone already earning a pro athlete’s salary, but some people apparently think that being a drug dealer is the coolest thing you could possibly do with your life.

Being from Dallas, I have one name for you: Nate Newton.

Might be paywalled, as it’s from ESPN+: A story about league consultant Drew Sorenson, who goes around to all 29 arenas and calibrates the rims, making sure they’re the right height and aren’t off-center. He’s been doing it for 30 years.

The Warriors’ Jordan Poole noticed that the rim was off-center by an inch during a first-round playoff game against the Nuggets, and before Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Warriors noticed that the basket was slightly higher than 10 feet off the ground.

But it has a highly detailed and old-school system to monitor basic aspects of the game like that, and even more nuanced ones like how tight the rim is.

Oh, pshaw - I mean who hasn’t driven around in an unmarked white van with a couple of hundred pounds of weed? I’m sure it was just for the personal use of himself and couple of thousand close friends that weekend .

The Celtics are 3½ point favorites for tomorrow’s game, according to Tippico Sportsbook.

FiveThirtyEight: Celtics have a 75% win probability. The site gives the Warriors a 25% win probability in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Did they take “Game 6 Klay” into consideration?

I hope he shows up!

WNBA legend Sue Bird, the league’s all-time assist leader, who’s won four championships with the Seattle Storm, has announced that she’s retiring at the end of the season.

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired 6’11" center/power forward Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets in exchange for the No. 26 pick and four players with expiring contracts.
