Super. i didn’t realize we were responsible for announcing points for everyone when we posted a celebrity death. If that’s the case, consider this my first and last announcement of the year.
Man, it would have been SO appropriate that a football coach qualified someone for “Opening Kickoff” award
No, that has never been a requirement. Most of the time, when someone other than the curator makes a death announcement and includes scoring, it amounts to “points for me!”.
We like to put the “fun” back into “funeral”.
.
For all my gripes about Discourse, I’ve gotta say the search function rocks. It’s especially helpful when you’re searching a long thread, like the Death Pool thread late in the year. Anyway, confirming eschereal, a search of this thread for ‘Reeves’ only turned up Hap’s post. Safe to say nobody had him.
ETA:
Even better if it had been a placekicker.
Well, that guy lost 3 Superbowls coaching the Broncos and then lost a fourth one against the Broncos, racking up the biggest net points deficit in those games, so it seems entirely appropriate that he would fail to score for anyone in death either.
RIP Mr. Julien; you done iconic.
"…Businessman Calisto Tanzi, who transformed a small family milk company into the multi-national food powerhouse Parmalat only to see it collapse in one of Italy’s biggest fraudulent bankruptcies, died on Saturday, aged 83.
Tanzi died of pneumonia in a hospital in Parma, the city in central Italy where he had made his fortune, his family said.
Parmalat collapsed in 2003 when a 14 billion euro hole was uncovered in its balance sheet, wiping out the savings of thousands of small investors in a bankruptcy that also reverberated across the worlds of banking, sport, tourism and entertainment…"
Now I’m picturing dirges played on a calliope and spring loaded caskets.
I assume you mean Pope Benedict XVI, as Pope Benedict XIV died in 1758

Luckily his corpse is shelf stable.
They’re not booing, they’re mooing.
Nope, wait… They’re booing.
Could someone get points for picking the death of Antonio Brown’s career?
You would have to figure a proper bound. A long career for an NFL WR is probably 15 years – a few have played longer, but a few people have lived 110 years. By that metric, Antonio Brown’s career would be worth about 3 points, 4 at most. If anyone had picked it.
But you can’t pick his career until it’s at least 18 years old. So by the time an NFLer’s career is eligible to be picked, it’s not worth any points!
I didn’t even know he was sick!
