Dang. I had a list a few years back of astronauts/cosmonauts and somehow I never had him on the list. He at least went to the moon even though they didn’t land until two missions later.
And not that it’s relevant you know why I think moon hoax theorists are crazy? I don’t believe that the faked film landing could be covered up. Call me cynical but someone would spill the beans.
“The Bad Astronomer” (AKA Phil Plait) a doper from way back when:
…has an entire page debunking the Fox moon hoax special that came out long ago.
(He hasn’t updated the website since 2006 and he hasn’t posted on the Dope since 2004, but he was pretty prolific back in the day from what I remember.)
I hate to disillusion you, but Apollo 9, unlike Apollo 8 or Apollos 10-17, didn’t leave low Earth orbit. They used that mission to test out the lunar landing module on its own for the first time, making sure they could fly it independently of the command module and could rendezvous and dock the two. But they wanted to test that out in low Earth orbit before relying on being able to do it a quarter of a million miles away.
Thanks. He sent me a copy of the book, since I had advised him on one chapter (unfortunately, he didn’t sign it for me), but I hadn’t noticed that dedication.
Phil was on SyFy Wire up until two weeks ago. You can probably find archives of the 1500 or so articles he wrote there. Currently find his newsletter at:
