Cheney ought to consider running as an independent, and maybe the Democratic party could decline to field a candidate and endorse Cheney (since the Democrats have no chance statewide in Wyoming). Maybe Cheney could barely skim a win with Democrats plus independents plus disaffected Republicans.
Club For Growth data? Forget it - it’s hopelessly biased. I think she has a real good chance of getting re-elected.
That’s quite a compromise for Democrats to make. I’m often Mr. Pragmatic McRealpolitik, but I still don’t think I could vote for Liz Cheney. She may have some personal integrity and genuine kudos to her for that, but her politics are still largely anathema to mine. But granted I don’t live in Wyoming.
Yes, it’s a lot like people saying they look back favorably on George W Bush’s presidency. Yes, he was more presidential than Trump, but he was an awful president, in many ways worse than TFG. Have these people forgotten the totally unwarranted invasion of Iraq and the torturing of prisoners?
Nice in theory, but registered Republicans in Wyoming outnumber Democrats and Independents combined by about 196,000 to 81,000. The numbers just aren’t there.
Compared to liberal Democrats organizing with solid south segregationists when I was young, I think not.
Liz Cheney spins herself to Wyoming as highly anti-abortion, but says she wants to outlaw abortions after 20 weeks. That just 8 days before the record earliest viable birth.
Unfortunately, there’s no way I can spin her position on guns as moderate.
Let’s face it - Walker could turn up to the debates stark naked and balls-deep in a live chicken and a substantial number of Georgians would still vote for him purely on the basis of the “(R)” after his name.
I’d be surprised if Walker even participates in any debates. Why would he? He can only hurt his chances. Just keep showing up in front of friendly audiences and speak in generalities and let the midterm red wave and Bulldogs fans carry him to the Senate.
Is that the Georgia equivalent of shooting someone on 5th Avenue?
Dem NC Candidate never held office other than as a judge, So they are going after her as soft on crime and she’s black. She probably gets 45%
I don’t buy this, especially by November, but would be delighted to be proven wrong:
Devil’s in the house of the risin’ sun.
Barnette declared she would not support Oz or McCormick in the general election, saying she had “no intentions of support[ing] globalists” before the election began Tuesday,
Is she a Flat Earther?
I don’t particularly buy it either (although I’ve also been accused of being “defeatist” about Democrats’ chances this November), but you’ve got to play the best cards you have. If what’s on people’s minds going into the voting booth is the state of the economy, Democrats are going to get pounded. If it’s school shootings and abortion restrictions, they’ve got a fighting chance.
The difficult thing, as you note, is making these still feel like pressing issues five months from now.
Given the pace we are on so far this year, school shootings will likely still be fresh and relevant. 5 months also gives the Republicans plenty of time to shoot themselves in the foot a few more times with abortion restrictions and the accompanying rhetoric.
I hope that this is true but I am not seeing it. I don’t see how we aren’t fucked.
I’m not convinced that school shootings are an issue that will push the median voter in a good direction. They’re guns+crime, neither of which are good issues for Democrats to have in the news. (If anything, there’s a trend for high-profile shootings to push people away from supporting even the tiniest gun control measures. It’s very bleak.)
Midterm elections tend to be less about persuading the “median voter” and more about getting your partisans and partisan-leaning voters to turn out. Republican and Republican-leaning voters are already highly motivated to turnout in November. Anything that can potentially motivate Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters to also turnout could at least staunch the bleeding.
With all signs pointing to a red wave election, almost anything that shakes up the race is good for Democrats. Republicans know that. Which is why when the draft SC decision leaked, they didn’t crow about finally overturning Roe after decades of effort but rather tried to make the act of leaking itself the focus.
