2022 US Senate Races

I put it in the same G-sheet as the confidence pool leaderboard (“538 v RCP” tab) if you want to take a closer look. The error was pretty heavily in one direction for the most part. The notable exception being Florida.

Cortez-Masto just declared the winner! Democrats retain control of the Senate!

As of this moment it looks like CNN and NBC News are projecting her the winner but other major outlets have not yet followed suit.

MSNBC called it.

ABC News too now, looks like the dominos are falling.

NYT says Cortez-Masto has 481,659 to Laxalt’s 476,676, with > 95% of votes counted, so just under 5,000 votes in her favor at this point.

(Also? There’s 11,877 votes marked ‘neither of these candidates’ listed on NYT’s site. That’s actually something you can choose on a ballot in NV?)

Nothing on Fox yet. I’m waiting for it.

I’m wondering how long before we hear from TFG. I imagine he’s absolutely miserable and I can’t tell you just how much joy that brings me.

I think his unfavored daughter is getting married at his Florida property this weekend. Probably tons of fun for her right now.

NYT just called for Cortez-Masto.

Yes, “None of the above” is a choice in NV. Odd, but actually kind of refreshing.

And probably a good idea - lets the vote counters know it wasn’t an accident you didn’t select someone there.

I hadn’t thought about that. That’s an excellent point.

She looks beautiful. (like a real person unlike most of the family) her father looks like he’s behaving.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Warnock. I think (hope) he will win. I wish Dems had a bigger majority, but at least they do have one which is better than some talking heads were predicting.

I honestly didn’t think it would be the “bloodbath” “red tsunami” whatever most people were predicting. Heh, I’m a bit giddy about it. I live in Trumpy town, and watching them grind their teeth is entertainment that can’t be beat. :grinning:

Savor the moment!

Will Manchin and Sinema be any less pains in the ass in the Congress? Probably not… but if Warnock wins, too, they might lose a little influence.

I have a lot more respect for Manchin than most on this board, but honestly, a 51 seat Democratic majority is great for both Manchin and Senate Democrats. It gives him more opportunities to vote against his Democratic colleagues to demonstrate his “independence” in an R+22 state, yet not prevent passage. It’s the Susan Collins formula.

As for Sinema – God only knows what her angle is.

Warnock winning means they will lose influence no doubt.

I definitely trust Manchin to be more of a team player than Sinema in a 51D-49R Senate.

Having said that, I’m going to suggest we let this angle die before it derails the thread yet again.

I think if Sinema becomes an obstacle to passing good legislation too often in the next two years Arizona Dems may begin preparing a nasty surprise for her in the '24 primary. That threat alone may be enough to help her get with the program.

With 51 senators, Manchin and Sinema can strategically alternate being “mavericks” and “independent” without blocking anything.

So apparently Rick Scott is going to challenge McConnell for Republican Leader. Senate Republicans are due to elect their leadership tomorrow, although some conservatives are pushing to delay the vote until the AK and GA Senate elections are finalized.
