Surprising nobody, Avatar-TWOW gets the SFX award.
Avatar group gets the hook so the host could tell a crappy joke. ![]()
I’m really glad I’m not one of the dozen or so people sitting behind that woman in the audience who’s wearing the white cloud.
Well, what’s the problem?
Your comment was rather nebulous

Unless it’s cotton candy…
I got a start from the Michelle Obama ad for her audible podcast. When she said “…protect, kindle, and carry the light…”, thought she said:
protect Kindle
and
carry the light
and that she was shilling for Amazon…
She was.
The choice of the word kindle could not have been accidental. The podcast is on Audible, a subsidiary of Amazon.
Women Talking at least gets one recognition and the brilliant Sarah Polley deserves this.
SARAH POLLEY, hell yeah!!
Thought “Is that the same Sarah Polley I watched in Terry Gilliam’s Adventures of Baron Munchaussen?”
Yep, that’s her.
Unless I’m mistaken that’s 96 year old Mel Brooks seated next to Jamie Lee Curtis.
Naatu Naatu is so winning.
She’s seemingly obscure, but is there an esteemed male director out there with a resume:
Celebrated child actor (Ramona)
Promising career as a young actress (Go, My Life Without Me)
Director of critically acclaimed movies (Away from Her, Take This Waltz, Women Talking)
Sought after scriptwriter
Documentarian
That isn’t celebrated?
Best acceptance speech so far… ![]()
“Protect, Kindle and carry the light, this is of Prime importance. Have I told you about my charitable foundation, dedicated to protecting the habitat of rainforest spiders?”
John Travolta made me cry.
Show us on the doll where he touched you…
ETA: Apologies, but it was too good an opportunity
I’ve never been a fan of vocal music performances during the In Memoriam segment. I’m old enough to remember awards shows just playing orchestral music as the photo montage rolled on; then somebody got the bright idea of having a singer up there onstage. They have gotten better about it, but the first few years there were a lot of moments where the director turned the camera focus to the singer while the montage continued, unseen by the TV audience. I always thought that was pretty disrespectful.
Tonight was not too distracting, although there were a couple of long shots showing Kravitz with the photos and captions a background afterthought. Come on, people - the In Memoriam isn’t supposed to be about somebody singing, it’s supposed to be a tribute to those who passed.
Direction award: EEAAO
Either I’m being whooshed or you’re mistaken. As I mentioned above, sitting between Michelle Yeoh and Jamie is Jean Todt, Yeoh’s husband.
He looks a little like Brooks, but I believe that must be Mr. Michelle Yeoh, as there was a just of shot of him with his hand in her lap.
