No. I won by a lot. I think certain other SDMB members were bringing in cancer patients and the elderly from other places to replace our celebrities. I have video of Happy Lendervedder passing a “death mint” to Baker. I have lists of alternate celebrities who did die but whose deaths were discounted. Why hardly any deaths in December and suddenly at midnight on New Year’s Eve we get a bunch more dead celebrities? There were death certificates for my celebrities that were changed to your celebrities by Hugo Chavez. RIGGED FAKE COUNTING!!! I will post proof in two weeks.
Donald Wildmon, the founder of the American Family Association — a Christian ministry — died on Thursday, Dec. 28 in Tupelo.
They’re being far too generous. I’d have described the AFA as “a ministry that identifies as Christian.” IOW, they call themselves Christian; it’s not our remit to determine whether that self-description is accurate.
I may be recalling incorrectly but several years after the towers fell there was a documentary by the French Naudet brothers. They’d been working with the NYFD filming the education of a rooky firefighter, and were there, getting the only footage of the first tower being struck. This was shown on network television and the profane reactions of the firefighters was not bleeped. Several groups complained about that, including I think the AFA.
I had only ever heard of them because my church in the 1980’s used to put their brochures/flyers inside the church bulletins. My Dad has always insisted our church growing up didn’t dabble into politics, but also seems to not remember that the AFA had flyers in our bulletins at church.
I said it before, I feel a lot like Richard Teichmann, the chess master. He was known as “Richard the Fifth” because he often finished in fifth place in chess tournaments, at least got to fourth place this time.
As a born-again Christian since before the ‘religious right’ became a thing, I was all too aware of the Moral Majority, the AFA, the Concerned Women for America (aka “Ladies Against Women”), and all those other groups that came along in the 1970s and 1980s that seemed to believe that the appropriate way of serving the Lord was to be a bunch of assholes.
Anyway: tie for sixth with the frood who knows where his towel is - not too bad. Hoping for top 5 in 2024.
I’m right behind you both, also my best result. And one unique pick, really can’t complain. But will nonetheless, of course: pity and shame that the end-of-year mass sprint was not as riveting as last year’s!

But I would suggest a black hat, with red letters outlined in gold (that is: yellow). And stars. Stars are always good. Silver (white). Gold (yellow). Purple (whatever).
