But most of them have been pointless. Only two have mattered, really.

I just saw an article that one of my picks is in poor health. Here is a new article about him, he’s worthy of notice, Ben Ferencz.
I didn’t necessarily agree with his politics, but he was a wonderful writer. I strongly recommend The Birth of the Modern and A History of the Jews among his many books.
Al Brown, an actor best known for his work on The Wire, has died after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 83.
I think Alzheimer’s scares me more than cancer. To lose the sense of oneself is so sad.
I’m terrified of it. And I think about how many times in my life I’ve had that “I didn’t say [n], I said [y],” “no, you said [n]” conversations, and wonder if that is how it starts.
You are still you. Your sense of being you does not change. You mental function is just faulty some of the time.

Count me as petrified of it as well. My paternal grandmother died of it and at the end it was heartbreaking. My dad has a habit lately of telling the same joke twice in a five minute period, or asking about a tattoo that I’ve had for ten years and things like that. It’s not debilitating or anything, but I fear for the signs.

I remember her in a movie “Solomon and Sheba” with Yul Brynner. Filming had not been long started when Tyrone Powere, playing Solomon, died. So Brynner was cast and they reshot the scenes already made.
