2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Patience pays off. I added her to my list 15 years ago, among a group of people who were 80 years old. She was the last survivor.

As posted in a thread in CS:

Dammit, she should have been on my list of actors over 90. I don’t know why she didn’t turn up in my searches.

My sympathy to her family and friends.

Psst! Scroll up 5-6 posts.

I don’t know if it was Alzheimer’s specifically, or some other form of dementia afflicting persons of advanced age, but that was a tell for my mom who died last year just before turning 96. I could almost measure its progress by how soon I could re-tell her the same stories about what my wife and son were doing, and have her be hearing them as if for the first time.

She started showing symptoms of dementia in her mid-80s, and it caught us by surprise because she was the first person on either side of our family who’d had issues with dementia. Her parents had died at ages 81 and 77, though, so a bit on the early side for being able to tell if they would have had it.

Anyway, yeah, it’s definitely a concerning possibility.

Frank Thomas, power hitter for mostly second-division teams before ending his career with the Mets, takes his final at-bat at 93.

nitpick: He didn’t end his career with the Mets, but he was on their very first roster.

I wonder if anybody from that roster is still alive? The youngest players on that roster were born in 1938.

ETA: first guy listed on the roster, Craig Anderson, is indeed still alive, age 84.

D’oh!

I think everyone who posts here regularly has done the same thing (me guilty).

I looked at a couple earlier posts, but not quite far enough up. Sorry 'bout that.

Australian singer Renee Geyer has died, aged 69, following hip surgery*.

*weirdly, the same reason Cardinal George Pell died. Someone might want to investigate Australian hip surgeons

Jim Molan couldn’t have the courtesy to have died 17 days ago and given me 28 points and the 2022 Death Pool title? Today he gives me nothing.

Two years ago, she said she was ready to join her grandparents and brother in heaven, but continued eating chocolate and drinking a glass of wine every day for another two years. Godspeed, sister!

That article doesn’t mention it but apparently it was a car accident.

Chris Ford dies at 74.
