I saw Jerry Springer when I was in Chicago in 2007. He was down in a cafe reading a book. I was with my students and some said hi. He said hello and kept reading his book. Seemed nice enough.
I heard a great NPR story about Jerry a long time ago, specifically about how he was an incredible hope for Democrats when he was young and how after his political scandal, he just turned it all in to make garbage television. He could still speak eloquently about liberal causes, but at some point he decided to just get paid to make trash.
His scandal certainly hurt his political career but didn’t end it. He was re-elected after it happened. He became mayor of Cincinnati a few years later then was crushed in the primary for Governor
Wrote a check, too, so very traceable. I mean, come on. I think he wrote a straight-up personal check and that left zero wiggle room to pretend he didn’t do it.
Then again, Trump is still trying to wiggle out of that Stormy Daniels thing and his name, at least I think, is on some kind of check to her.
Yeah, it was either a personal check or even worse, a check from the city. I believe it was a personal check from the account of Jerry Springer, but I am at work and dare not be googling Jerry’s specific situation from back then because…well, I’m in a school and it is not good.
Note: my aside about his scandal is not intended to tear him down. Despite his show and scandal, I actually think he was a smart, intelligent, and eloquent guy. I wish he had done a bit more, but I’m no all-star.
