2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Same here, I had him on my list last year but replaced him with some wish list picks this year.

I forgot he was on my list until I saw my name on the tote board. First points of the year.

And the politicians keep on keepin’ on…

:sigh: :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Maybe his family will pay the undertaker with a check…

I saw Jerry Springer when I was in Chicago in 2007. He was down in a cafe reading a book. I was with my students and some said hi. He said hello and kept reading his book. Seemed nice enough.

I heard a great NPR story about Jerry a long time ago, specifically about how he was an incredible hope for Democrats when he was young and how after his political scandal, he just turned it all in to make garbage television. He could still speak eloquently about liberal causes, but at some point he decided to just get paid to make trash.

His scandal certainly hurt his political career but didn’t end it. He was re-elected after it happened. He became mayor of Cincinnati a few years later then was crushed in the primary for Governor

Remind me of his scandal, please.

Soliciting a prostitute while on the Cincinnati city council.

Wrote a check, too, so very traceable. I mean, come on. I think he wrote a straight-up personal check and that left zero wiggle room to pretend he didn’t do it.

Then again, Trump is still trying to wiggle out of that Stormy Daniels thing and his name, at least I think, is on some kind of check to her.

Hookers take checks? Who knew?

Yeah, it was either a personal check or even worse, a check from the city. I believe it was a personal check from the account of Jerry Springer, but I am at work and dare not be googling Jerry’s specific situation from back then because…well, I’m in a school and it is not good.

Note: my aside about his scandal is not intended to tear him down. Despite his show and scandal, I actually think he was a smart, intelligent, and eloquent guy. I wish he had done a bit more, but I’m no all-star.

First thing I wondered was who will throw out the ceremonial first chair at his funeral.

My votes is for Steve! Steve! Steve! Steve! Steve!

I saw him years ago on one of the celebrity DNA shows. He came across very well and thoughtful.

I think I heard him in an interview say that his show added superfluous bleeps to make it seem even more salacious.

Brian

She lied, a man died.

He was. I think he just took the huge pile of cash and didn’t care if it was “the worst show in television history” or whatever they bragged about.

I presume he filmed it in very large chunks, only having to work a few months a year. Like a gameshow.

All these replies about Springer and nobody had him for points. :sleepy:
