2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Don “Bones” January, PGA Tour Golfer, Major Champion, has died at age 93.

True, but if you subtract his age (73) from 100, as we do to determine the score for that listee, you get 27.

Right: that is the 27 outs that he failed to get (a whole game).

FORMER Louisville coach Denny Crum has died at 86.

And cartoonist S. Gross has died at 89. He made me laugh many a time.

Despite the courage of the fearless crew, former FCC chairman Newt Minow has been lost to the vast wasteland. (Yes, the S.S. Minnow was named for him.)

Also…

Man, the local media is going to be unbearable for the next week. Too many front page and special tributes to Crum.

Former Vikings Quarterback Joe Kapp has passed (get it??). He was 85 (actually, for the Vikings, he was #11)

I loved his cartoons when I was a regular reader of the National Lampoon. The “frog legs” cartoon is a classic!

Oh right - that “S. Gross”. Absolute legend.

I recognize the name now as well. I had a subscription to National Lampoon back in college. I always looked forward to his stuff.

General Hospital actress Jacklyn Zeman has died at 70.

I haven’t watched General Hospital in years and years! I remember Bobbie Spencer very well. RIP Jacklyn.

I didn’t know her work, but that article is very, very sad. RIP, Heather.

Ditto. I’d have probably liked her.

Sonia Pizarro, who appeared on the show Operation: Repo, passed away on May 3 at the age of 60.

Don Denkinger, longtime MLB umpire, has missed his last call at age 86.

Denkinger blew a call at first base in Game 6 of the 1985 Series that very well may have cost the Cards a championship.

The Royals won! Yay!
