2024 NBA Playoffs

It might prove that despite getting swept, my Pacers will have been the ones to give the Celtics the biggest fight.

That was Dallas’s best chance, now it’s just a question of whether it will be a sweep.

Kyrie really stepped up. But it wasn’t enough. I’m thinking Dallas will probably win game 4.

Dallas clearly doesn’t have enough even with Irving and Doncic playing great. They need a third guy.

Only if the Celtics, consciously or unconsciously, take their foot off the gas a bit so they can win the championship at home.

Had Doncic played great, Dallas probably would have won. Yes, he scored 27 points, but he took 27 shots and made just 11. He was 1-7 on 3-pointers, cost his team at least 2 fast break buckets because he was whining, and fouled out as they had just closed the gap to three points with four minutes left.

He’s clearly exhausted and banged up, but last night was not his best effort.

I wonder how frequently both the Stanley Cup finals and the NBA Finals are sweeps.

It could happen this year, but it must happen once in awhile.

Twice, in 1995 (Rockets swept the Magic, Devils swept the Red Wings) and 1983 (76ers over the Lakers, Islanders swept the Oilers).

Please tell me you had to look this up, and didn’t just know it off the top of your head.

If you include Baseball, there have been a few more double sweeps but no triple sweeps.

2007 (Red Sox over Rockies, Spurs over Cavs)
1998 (Yankees over Padres, Red Wings over Caps)
1976 (Reds over Yankees, Canadiens over Flyers)

ETA, yes, I had to look these up.

Huh, thanks.

A triple sweep would be a cool fact.

All right, folks, how many times have both or all three series gone to 7 games?

I have no idea how you all find these details.

“There’s an app for that!”
Probably - I have no clue either??

NBA - 1951, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1984, 1988, 1994, 2005, 2010, 2013, 2016

MLB - 1909, 1912, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1931, 1934, 1940, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1952, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019

NHL - 1942, 1945, 1955, 1964, 1965, 1971, 1987, 1994, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2019

So, 1955 is the only year with three 7-game series.

Just Google searches and a bit of quick examination.

Inconceivable!

Jerry West apparently decided he’d rather die than watch the Celtics win another championship. You’ve gotta respect that.

Wild applause. First outright laugh of the day!

Saw this on reddit earlier and it made me laugh.

The Mavs, of course, took way too long to get their act together, but the convincing way in which they’re winning tonight (currently leading by 32 points as I type) might give them a psychological boost in a way that merely squeaking by wouldn’t. If they can pull off a Game Five upset in Boston, it’ll become a whole different series, mentally.

Well. In Game 3, I criticized Doncic for his performance, when he was 11-27 from the field, 1-7 from 3, and 4-4 from the line, as Dallas lost by 7. Tonight, he was 12-26, 0-8, and 5-7, as Dallas won by 38. Obviously, I know very little.

If my math is correct, through the first four games the cumulative score is Boston 402, Dallas 408. Boston could win the next game by 3, and win the series, while having been outscored. I wonder if that’s ever happened before, especially over a five-game series.
