2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Yeah, I mean I think he had good success. He became an imposing force in any movie he was in.

He needed a role like what Keith David got in Community, where we see a totally different side and ability level of the actor.

Was Tony Todd ever in pure comedies or cast as, let’s say, the romantic lead, etc.?

I remember watching Star Treks on the H&I channel one night. The Next Generation episode was one of the ones with Worf’s brother Kurn, and then after was the DS9 with old Jake Sisko waiting for his dad, who became unstuck in time years ago, to reappear. And all of a sudden I was like “Hey, wait a minute…”

Kurn has gone to Stovokor.

I have Bobby Allison on my Theme list

John Robinson, former USC and Rams coach, had called his last play at age 89.

I wonder if there is another pair of childhood friends that both became successful head coaches at that level like Robinson and John Madden.

Another 89-year-old former college football coach also passed away yesterday. Gerry Faust was famously elevated from a successful high school coach to one of the most scrutinized jobs in the country.

Famous lawyer Ted Olson died. I mainly remember him because his wife Barbara was on a lot of political talk shows before she was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Olson was born on September 11, 1940

She died on his 61st birthday.

Timothy West, aged 90.

British actor, and husband of Prunella Scales.

Oh no! I first saw him in Brass, an excellent but largely forgotten 80s sitcom.

Right. I remember hearing him talk about this. She was getting a flight to come join him for his birthday.

:frowning:

She was born in December. It looks like he decided to join her for her birthday instead.

I had no idea that Samuel West was his son (and also the son of Prunella Scales). He plays Siegfried Farnum on All Creatures Great and Small.

LOS ANGELES – Dallas Long, a three-time NCAA shot put champion who won a gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, has died. He was 84.

He died of natural causes Sunday in Whitefish, Montana, USC said Tuesday after being informed by a family member. No further details were provided.

Long ruled the shot put in the 1960s, winning three consecutive NCAA titles from 1960 to 1962.

ESPN and elsewhere.

Mr. Piffles, canine sidekick of comedy magician Piff the Magic Dragon, has performed his last trick at 16. No points for anybody, since he was both non-human and a minor.

Coincidentally, I just went to see Piff’s show two nights ago, and thought maybe I’d seen Mr. Piffles’ final performance, but it turns out I saw Mr. Piffles II, an actual clone of the original.

I’m glad the original Mr. Piffles got to enjoy some rest and relaxation in his last days, and wasn’t expected to continue doggedly on.

Pun intended?
