Huh? When’s the last time we’ve had a discussion like this?
Off and on since post #652.
IOW, the past couple of days. My sympathies are with you during this difficult time.
My cold meds are making me cranky.
Hell, I have an IMDb page. Sadly, my stirring performances as “Man in Police Station,” “Orchestra Member,” and “Fair Attendee” have yet to earn me the fame I so richly deserve.
I thought you were robbed.
Anyway, we can’t pick Dopers for the Death Pool, so don’t worry.
All people have to do is annotate their list, which most people do, especially if there’s any ambiguity or someone who only a few people might know. All I’d say is to encourage this more often.
Still, if there are 100 players, that’s 1300 names and descriptions to read, and that’s a bit much to ask. I think it’s worth having some modest guidelines, before people start including someone on their county Board of Ed that has stage 4 cancer.
People haven’t. I think we should leave it be since it has been fine.
This person on RAL’s list wasn’t all that much different IMHO. That’s why I wondered what that person had been famous for.
Until there are Cash and Prizes, we should all just lighten up, Frances.
The only change I would currently suggest is an earlier deadline, mostly because I feel bad for Baker having to compile on her birthday.
I had a wiki page for a couple of weeks, until the editors decided that a wholesale copy/paste of my Internet Oracle Priest bio page was not appropriate for submission.
That’s a felony in this game.
Bravo sir
I mean, it is a frikkin’ game, folks. We are not playing for this month’s rent (well, not me, anyway). The best part, for me, is learning stuff about people I have barely or not even heard of, but, that person did something worthy of note or had an interesting life (I have a friend who reads the obits every day because folks are stories). So, tightening up the rules too much would mean the game, for me, would lose some of its fun. And, last I looked, games are supposed to be fun.
What makes it fun is different to everyone.
Yeah, games are games. Games have rules. And rules keep things fair for everyone. Some of us who play games like to clarify and debate rules from time to time to make sure it’s all fair. If there’s a question of the rules, sometimes a discussion is warranted.
There’s a reason the OP of this thread doesn’t just read “Post who you thinks gonna die!” I don’t think it’s obnoxious to discuss the definition of a celebrity in a game that has the word celebrity in the name
NPR had a story this morning that started out with a snippet of the closing song from the old Carol Burnett Show (“I’m so glad we had this time together…”) and my first thought was “Oh crap! Carol Burnett died!” But the story turned out to be about something completely different.
(While I would be sad if Carol Burnett died, it would get me some points on my themed list.)
Longtime NFL reporter Chris Mortenson has predicted his last draft pick at 72 years old.
