That’s if prostate cancer is the real killer!
What was her issue with R. Crumb?
She condemned him as a sexist pig. From a strictly academic feminist viewpoint, oh Hell yes. But Crumb is both a humorist and an artist, and he shouldn’t have been held to the same standards as lawmakers and moral heroes, and as a humorist and artist herself she had no right to make that accusation unless he was using his clout to deny her or other women livelihoods or to extort them for sex.
Crumb mastered the 20th C. Modernist method of letting the Id out and laughing it away for all its pain and corruption. We’ve moved on since then, not without good reason, but I’ve not noticed any improved methods emerging.
I don’t think academic feminism is needed to spot the misogyny in Crumb’s art. It was obvious to me as a teen. It’s pretty gross.
This is one I’m sorry to hear of.
K pop star Park Boram has died at age 30.
Also, the world’s oldest conjoined twins, Lori and George Schappell, have reportedly died aged 62. George was originally born Dori, but came out as transgender in 2007.
My goodness. Dude had a hard row to hoe.
Yeah. Being born conjoined and not being able to be separated, having to spend your days in a wheelchair due to the nature of the conjoinment, coming out as transgender, especially as late in life as he did, and dying at 62.
That’s…a lot.
Seperate identical twins also get rhyming names. I knew a Ronald and Donald. Good on George for changing the name.
This brings to mind a question:
Do conjoined twins count as one or two selections in the Pool? An argument could be made that, for instance, since Abby and Bethany Hensel are two different people (legally speaking, for instance, Abby was just revealed to have been married since 2021, while Bethany is still single, that one could use them as two different picks in future Pools.
I don’t necessarily agree with that argument, but I could see someone making the argument that they are two legally distinct people in an attempt to double-up on points.
If they are 2 people, they should take up 2 spots on your list. And for that reason, if you only want to take up one spot you should be allowed to predict just one of them.
I had not heard of fashioniste Roberto Cavalli, such as I can recall, but enough others have that his 17 point exit is news-ish.
Eleanor Coppola was the wife of Francis but also made documentaries like Heart of Darkness.
Sorry to hear about Faith Ringgold. Worcester Museum of Art just had a great exhibit about her, including the story quilt that became the award-winning children’s book Tar Beach.

94 years for doing the math.
“The concept of the Higgs field and the Higgs boson is unique in particle physics,” said Mark Thomson, professor of particle physics at Cambridge university and the UK candidate to be Cern’s next director-general. “It is unlike anything else we have seen.”
That’s the third time Higgs has died in this thread. Is that like a quantum physics thing?
