2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Electric Light Orchestra Keyboardist Richard Tandy Dead at 76 (ultimateclassicrock.com)

Dammit! I have tickets to see ELO in Pittsburgh later this year. You’re supposed to die after the farewell tour, not during.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think Richard Tandy had performed with ELO for a while due to health concerns. Regardless, I’m jealous of you. Hope you enjoy the show!

Thanks. I’m really looking forward to this concert. I hope Jeff Lynne doesn’t do anything stupid before September.

Hey, I had Richard Tandy on my list!

In 2019.

It’s always a conundrum, do I keep a favorite person alive for the next year or go for the points in another death pool. Difficult negotiations with the person’s agent each year :upside_down_face:

If you have that kind of sway with the Angel of Death, then I need to talk to you about a few people on my list…

Like record new music?

Just kidding.

I had her on my list of possibles for the Staying Alive pool but she was too young.

Ha! No, more like falling off a stage, getting electrocuted by faulty equipment, or dieing in a bizarre gardening accident.

Oh, wait. Didn’t a member of ELO get killed by a giant bale of hay?

That should move @jeezums up to 9th place by himself and shift all us tied for 10th down to 11th place and move @GIGObuster down to 10.

And…

Rutan, best known for the record-setting non-stop unrefueled circumnavigation he and Jenna Yeager accomplished in 1986, was surrounded by family when he died in Kootenai Hospital in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho in the early evening from complications resulting from a year-long bout with Long COVID according to family friends.

Aw. I had the honor of meeting Rutan at JPL one time and have several personalized photos of both him and that plane.
