2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Actress and stuntwoman Susan Backlinie - aka Chrissy Watkins, the first victim in Jaws has died.

Trivia: he played the FBI director in The Silence of the Lambs

I just listened to a segment on Corman on this month’s Dana Gould Hour podcast. I hadn’t thought about him in ages, then he pops up twice in one week.

I believe that’s 2 points for me!

Sole possession of 11th place for uperdude!

Wait, was that supposed to be überdude?

I was actually thinking of the shark victim the other day too.

Two points for (the uber) Superdude, and Irritant:

Hello phungi, I tried to message you but for some reason my computer will not allow me to do that. I have been shadowing Baker’s lists for several years and I DM her when I have a discrepancy; sometimes my discrepancy was incorrect and sometimes it was correct. So, I’ve compared my schedule with your list and found 4 discrepancies. One was Superdude being misspelled that has been corrected. The others are that you have someone named Wackbjt tied for 20. That’s not on Baker’s May 3 list or mine; as a matter of fact, I don’t have that person listed as being in the 2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool. Also, you have John T and ZamboniAce1000 listed as tied for 23rd. Those are not on Baker’s May 3 list or mine and I checked to see if possibly they had someone die between May 3 and yesterday and I don’t see where any announcement of the death of someone age 76 was made. Would you please let me know if I have incorrectly not included points for those 2 participants and who died for them. Thanks.

Thanks for the “head’s up”, I made a scorekeeper by going through the posts up until the Dec 31 11:59 CST cut-off, and I hope I got things right:

Wackjbt posted a list on Dec 25, that is where I got their picks (and they got points for Toby Keith)

JohnT picked Richard Lewis, as did ZamboniAce1000 (it looks like Richard Lewis’ death was never posted)

Thanks phungi. Since my husband had severe medical issues this year, I hadn’t been checking the wikipedia list of deaths so missed Richard Lewis.

Wackjbt posted at 151 with commentary and spaces between choices. At post 154 Allecher advised Wackjbt that they needed to post a clean list. At post 155 Baker politely requested that Wackjbt post a clean list. At post 157 Baker said she made an executive decision that she was not counting lists that don’t conform to the rules until they come back and do it correctly. So, that is why I think that Baker’s list with scores as of May 3 didn’t include Wackjbt … but I could be mistaken.

Again, I appreciate the extra set of eyes… I am going to keep Wackjbt in the list for now, and defer to the DeathMistress when she returns.

David Sanborn, an influential saxophonist, who found success across the genres of pop, R&B, jazz and more, died Sunday.

He was 78.

Just came in to post this. I was working in Tower Records when he was big. It wasn’t fun for this metalhead. That said, you can’t deny his influence, and cancer sucks. RIP.

Lethal Weapon wouldn’t be the same without him.

Author Alice Munro has died at 92.

A single point likely coming in sooner rather than later…

There will be a lot of +1s to people’s scores.

And now I feel bad that this will be how I get my first ever point.

It ain’t a done deal yet. At this point I won’t be surprised if he holds out until October.
