2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Yep, that’s what I said.

When I heard that John Ashton had died, I initially thought it was John Astin. In fact, I made the mental error several times before I got it straight in my head. I wonder if the X report is the result of a similar mistake.

So the riddle remains , is anyone gone and who gets points?

At this point, I’d say no one gets points for John Astin, since appears to still be alive.

Actually, it looks like no one is going to get points for John Astin under any circumstances, since he is not on anyone’s list.

In a way that’s kind of sad, that nobody seems to have kept up with him. I always said that if I was a viable pick I’d be flattered to be on people’s lists. It would mean they remembered me.

[Makes note to add Astin to my 2025 list of entertainers over 90.]

We Remember him as the Healthy, witty and talented Stout Yeoman that he is with many more years to enjoy!

You know what’s going to happen, don’t you?

Sure, adding him to the list will keep him alive at least another year, like 12 of the 13 on this year’s list (14 out of 16, if you count the alternates). It’s all part of my fiendish plan to keep veteran performers alive as long as possible.

Greg Landry died October 4th, aged 77.

I’ve got him on my themed DP list, but not the regular one.

Just heard on the 6: pm news, Cissy Houston, mother of singer Whitney Houston passed away at 91 years old.

I can’t imagine anything sadder for a parent than to outlive her daughter AND granddaughter.

Author Robert Coover has died at 92.

Former MLB pitcher Luis Tiant.

Johan Neeskens, fantastic soccer player and good person, has died at the age of 73:

Unfortunately for him and for the Netherlands he lost the '74 final against the Germans after scoring from the penalty spot in the first minute. He still had a great career, including a stint at Barcelona, where he is warmly remembered.

Bummer.
