Canada is pretty abysmal in basketball against France, but regardless of that performance I’ve concluded that the rules of basketball ruin what is otherwise an interesting sport. Good touch! Bad touch! Bad touch but we allow the points anyway and the whole game is free throws!
It’s just irritating to watch because there’s no flow.
Pretty cool for France to step up with the games at home though. Good for them.
The Australia/Serbia basketball game was an intense affair. Australia had a 24 point lead in the first half, but Serbia came back and seemingly had the game in hand, until Patty Mills hit an impossible shot to tie the game and sent it into OT. Then when it looked like Australia had the edge, Jokic took over the game and lifted Serbia to the win. Great game.
Now I’m watching USA/Germany women’s soccer. USA scored in extra time and are trying to hold on for a 1-0 victory.
The commentator, Jon Champion, is a Treasure. Doesn’t just talk constantly to hear his own voice. Only speaks when there is something to say.
I really wish all sports announcers were like this guy. Especially Formula One. They got about 15 people with microphones, and there is not a second of un-babbled airtime.
This is me as well. Professional players that are already televised every week? Yawn.
Flavor Flav sponsoring water polo because they’re working 2 or 3 jobs to represent their country in a sport they love that is almost completely unknown here? Yes, please, x100.
It’s a distance that’s been in use in competition for over a century, so it’s the closest approximation. Too much to ask the rest of the world change for us.
Yeah, they had a big early lead, but Brazil, to their credit, cut it to nine late in the first half. But the Americans went on a 15-0 run to end the half and never looked back.
I think their exhibition games were just played very laid back. Their pattern now is to play full-quality in the opening quarter or two and then just maintain their lead.
I remember the 1992 Dream Team. Despite their huge victories, they probably could have won by, and I’m not exaggerating, 70 points or more a few times.
So we watched a movie, and after, turned on Prime Time. Saw 1 semi in the womens’ 400m hurdles. After, Mike Tirico said, [paraphrase] “We’ll show you some competition later, but first, the SNL takeover of the Olympics continues…”
