2024 Summer Olympics Thread

From the looks of it the Lesotho national hat is a great choice for the conditions.

The idea to spread the ceremony out in the open on the Seine and around Paris was brilliant. It probably wouldn’t work for every city but for example if Rome was to host the Olympics again, they could probably pull it off too.

The acts themselves were of uneven quality but I did like the missing characters from the famous Louvre paintings and the tribute to French cinema pioneers. I was confused by the Minions too but apparently the animation on the Despicable Me films was done by a French studio.

(And of course the Minions had the missing Mona Lisa… )

Hey fashion show!

Puerto Rico’s traditional Panama hats also seem to be quite a good weather choice.

That one male model had to go down the catwalk en pointe. Ouch!

The cut to Tahiti was pretty cool.

This party has everything!

Is that piano on fire? That piano is on fire!

:fire: :musical_keyboard: :fire:

I was in a zoom meeting with the ceremony running silently on my phone next to me and was distracted by that - I need to watch it again later

Darth Fabulous is arriving!

I would be so worried about tripping!

What does the Panamanian team wear?

I want to ride that Shiney horse down the river. So cool.

I think the us rights heads went splody. What with manaja tois, drag queens, gay people all welcome. Very inclusive and in the spirit.

I THINK you mean

The heads of the right-wingers in the USA exploded.

Am I correct?

For a moment I thought they were going to light the Eiffel Tower aflame. But they’ve gone back to the Seine. So where’s the Olympic cauldron?

That tip of the ile de la cite? I doubt it, but it would be neat.

Yeah, busy watching and posting.

One of the very best cauldron build-ups I’ve ever seen. Including foreign athletes like Nadal, Lewis, Serena, Nadia.

I don’t know about the entire show, but this cauldron build-up is just amazing.

I like this final group continuing together
