But…she is dressed as one.
Ah, Christine O’Donnell. Feels like a 100 years ago, but in many ways she was the canary in the coalmine for Republican Senate primaries. She was a nutjob who defeated the more moderate, establishment Republican who could have actually made the general election race competitive. Here’s to hoping Republican primary voters continue to cut off their nose to spite their face.
In the 2020 Delaware Republican primary, the voters rejected James DeMartino, a pretty Trumpy, but also standard Delaware Republican, in favor of Lauren Witzke, a Qanon, Putin loving, flat Earther.
Gotta weigh her against a duck to be sure.
That would be awesome if Cruz were to be unseated. Looks like they have a good candidate and I hope Beto has given up chasing after statewide seats.
She never turned anyone into a newt that I heard of.
You never heard what she did to poor Billy Gingrich?
Did he ever get better…?
Some good news for Dems here.
Love his reason — gotta keep us safe from commie infiltration. And fluoridated water.
Good to know he’s preserving his precious bodily fluids rather than squandering them in a Senate bid.
The NRSC gets their preferred candidate - former Navy SEAL and entrepreneur Tim Sheehy - to enter the Montana Senate race. He’s likely to face primary opposition, but with his biography and the possibility of self-funding he would be a strong challenger to Tester.
The latest from The Hill:
Could be a factor:
Wouldn’t it be great if there were consequences? I hope Ron Weiser sticks to his guns.
What a schadenfraudenly enjoyable article that was!
And with those two being swing states - heartwarming news.
Here’s hoping, but these bid-dollar donor boycotts never seem to work. First, because MAGA world has done an excellent job of building up a legion of small-dollar donors who can be reliably goosed into making a contribution every couple months through some manufactured outrage. And secondly, because these big donors always seem to come home during the general election. Even if not contributing directly to the party, they funnel their money into PACs that have functionally the same effect of supporting the MAGA loons.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, too. But we can always hope!
Just spitballing here, but what we might be witnessing is a realignment that reduces the importance of traditional state GOP party apparatuses. As PACs continue to be the avenue for dollars and messaging, the party, as we used to understand it, is irrelevant?
This has been the trend for decades, honestly. While not irrelevant, the power of the parties to enforce their preferences on who gets nominated and how they campaign and govern has withered. It’s true on both sides — Obama ran his presidential campaigns nearly completely separate from the DNC.
And in other Senate news, State Senator Roland Gutierrez has announced he’s joining Colin Allred in running for the Democratic nomination for Senate in Texas. Gutierrez represents Uvalde, and he has made gun control the focus of his political identity.
This is bad news. Knocking off Cruz was always going to be a struggle, and a contested Democratic primary means wasting limited resources battling each other while Cruz grows his stockpile. Oh well, never underestimate the ability of Texas Democrats to shoot themselves in the foot.
No pun intended.
Meanwhile, in Michigan:
I remember him as an FBI agent on the TV series of Unlimited. A charismatic guy FWIW.
