How rare is it to correctly call the entire second round?
I ran a bracket pool for about 30 years (1985-2015), which had anywhere from 40 to 80 contestants. Getting all 16 teams right into the Sweet Sixteen happened a few times, but not very many. That’s quite an accomplishment!
There will be a new NCAA champion this year, as the Gators dispatched UConn yesterday to end UConn’s 13-game tournament win streak. Maryland is next for the Gators.
That 13-game winning streak was the second-longest, and UConn was tied with Duke, who won 13 in a row from 1991-1993.
The longest streak belongs to UCLA, who won 38 games in a row from 1964-1974. Their streak was broken in the 1974 semi-final, when NC State defeated UCLA in double overtime, 80-77.
Last night kept me 100% starting with the second round.
Tonight, however, is risky. I have: Michigan State & Auburn winning.
Note: I attended University of Michigan, so if they win, I’ll be happy even though it screws up my bracket.
@Mahaloth I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 99.9% bracket this far into the tournament. Impressive!
Thanks. I was wrong to say I got the entire second round; I missed one there. I have two first round misses and one second round miss.
Got all the of the sweet 16, though, so back on track.
I wonder how many total brackets were submitted to ESPN?
If you’d taken all chalk into the Elite Eight, you’d only have one incorrect as the games are:
1 Florida vs 3 Texas Tech (#2 St Johns lost to Arkansas in the 2nd round)
1 Duke vs 2 Alabama
1 Houston vs 2 Tennessee
1 Auburn vs 2 Michigan State
I wonder if there ever been an Elite Eight that was so chalky.
I was wondering the same thing, so I looked it up.
2007 had the same seeds: 4 #1 seeds, 3 #2 seeds, 1 #3 seed.
So this year is tied for the most chalkiness.
And now we have all four #1 seeds in the Final Four. When was the last time that happened?
It only happened one other time: 2008. North Carolina was the overall #1 seed, but they lost to Kansas in the semis. Memphis was the overall #2 seed, and they defeated UCLA in the semis. Kansas then defeated Memphis in overtime for the title.
You’d think I would have remembered that one!
I certainly will never forget it!
My beautiful bracket took a hit there in the final 8. I missed one.
Still, probably the best bracket of my life.
Yes, the Ducks did indeed lose everything on the day you posted that!
Well, I was rooting for Houston tonight, but as a consolation I’ll proudly claim first place in the SDMB Bracketeers pool.
Congratulations! ESPN thought had a roughly 94% chance to win the pool with about 16 minutes left, but it wasn’t meant to be. My bracket winless streak stretches to 31 years and counting, but I plan on being back next year.
Congrats @Railer13 !
Congrats Gators!
