2025 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

And his wife and even dog. Must have been Carbon Monoxide.

Weird Al’s parents died together from carbon monoxide poisoning.

I thought of this immediately and always do. It was indeed his parents’ death that got me and my wife to put in carbon monoxide detectors in the house.

The day before they died was a Friday and an article had been in our paper how Al was going to be performing the following Wednesday. When I heard about his folks I figured he wouldn’t be performing. But it was announced that he would. Al was quoted as saying that as long as he was working he wasn’t crying, so he worked right up until the funeral.

Everyone should have them, especially if you have a gas appliance. It has no scent, it is invisible. And it will knock you out fairly quick in high enough concentrations.

When we get dispatched for a CO detector going off, we go on air to do a search of the home for good reasons.

Found a NYT article about his passing. Here is a quote:
"Speaking in 2020 at the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in German-occupied Poland, where he was shipped from the Lodz ghetto when he was a teenager, Mr. Turski sounded an alarm about what he called “a huge rise in antisemitism.”

Auschwitz did not fall from the sky,” he said in a Polityka magazine podcast. “It began with small forms of persecution of Jews. It happened; it means it can happen anywhere. That is why human rights and democratic constitutions must be defended.”

emphasis added.

That would be me.

Literally texted my wife to ask what we have. 1 in our laundry room, which has the gas furnace and gas dryer, two in separate spots upstairs(no gas appliances there).

Whew.

now I will never get that espresso

Cops are now calling the Hackman deaths “suspicious.”

Yikes.

A candidate for my morbid thought experiment?

Boris Spassky has no moves left.

Checkmate

I am on the board

I have been keeping that guy alive for the better part of a decade.

Oh, damn! I had him in my short list and dropped him. I am still not on the board :frowning:

I think there should be a special year-end award for the player who has had NO deaths at all from their list, but has the oldest total sum of ages of all those living people on their list. We all know our lists prolong the lives of our celebrities, but recognition should go to the player with the best use of that power.

That is an interesting idea. I will bookmark it for the end of the year, when new awards are discussed (I think) and will quote you then. The Power of Immortality Award (PIA)!

ETA: <second thoughts> You mean, it was my fault because I dropped him? :worried:<\second thoughts>

You cannot save all the starfish on the beach.

Great wisdom brings great relief, thank you.
