But he eventually realized he was on the losing side and he testified against the administration in exchange for a lesser sentence.
Judy Hoback Miller is also still alive at 88. She was one of the key informants who worked with Woodward and Bernstein. (The other was Mark Felt aka Deep Throat.) Hoback was the bookkeeper for Nixon’s re-election campaign and she was the one who passed on the information about the campaign paying the burglars, establishing the connection between them. But she never sought publicity for her role and didn’t become a well known figure.

I was wondering about Chuck Colson, so I googled him, and he has indeed passed away. I noticed that his middle name was Wendell. There had been a Wendell Colson who was briefly in one of my elementary school classes (I’m guessing third grade, give or take a year), and sure enough, Colson’s oldest son is named Wendell, and shares a birth year with me. So I think I may have just two degrees of separation from Chuck Colson.
I already knew I likely had just two degrees of separation from Howard Hunt, but that’s another story.
He was part of the local news scene for my entire life. At least the parts I remember.
