27 to 9 to 3 to 1--Resurrection! (Movie Game)

We haven’t done this for awhile, I’ve missed it (as I hope some of you have), so here goes!

For the uninitiated, here are the rules: We begin with a list of 27 actors. Divide the list into 9 sets of three actors who were in a film together (use each actor only once). Now, take each group of three and add a fourth actor from the same film; when completed you will now have a list of 9 different actors. Divide that list into 3 groups of three, add the fourth actor to each group, and you will end up with a single group of three. Name the film they have in common and you win!

Example: **C K Dexter Haven, CalMeacham, ** and carnivorousplant were in “Revenge of the Straight Dope” together–along with Ukulele Ike and so on. Feel free to use imdb or other sources at your disposal.

There are no repeats in this game; each actor is used only once.

One request: should you figure the final answer out out sometime in the first
round or so, please use spoiler boxes so the less brilliant among us can continue to play!

I’ll play - from home so I can concentrate on it

Dammit, I INVENTED the game! And yet I’ll be computerless for 4 days. :frowning:

Ah, perhaps. But you will be having outside fun, no?

I’ll be having a fargin’ blast! As soon as my GF gets here. I’ll play until then.

gotta say - Tim Curry has been in a lot more movies than I would have guessed - this is going to be harder than I thought

ok - I think I have the first one:
Judgement At Nuremberg
Spencer Tracy
Marlene Dietrich
Burt Lancaster
with Richard Widmark

Widmark is correct, but you only have 2 of the 3 Nuremburg actors.

okay - Then Judy Garland with Marlene & Burt?

#2
Escape From New York
Ernest Borgnine
Donald Pleasance
Lee Van Cleef
with Harry Dean Stanton (Kurt Russell would have been too obvious)

2 for 2!

Oops, sorry! Escape from NY is 100% right, Nuremberg is still 2 out of 3 (Garland is right, though).

To avoid confusion, Nuremberg is Lancaster, Tracy and Garland…with Widmark.

ok - I have complaint - Marlene Dietrich was in lots of movies, several with Jimmy Stewart, but I could not match her up with more than one on your list other than in Judgement. Is it too early for a hint?
