3 Days in New York City

Hello, me and a group of friend (under 21) will reunite in NYC and I am in charge of the entertainment part. A very big responsibility right there.

So I have a few questions regarding my assignment:

  • Does anyone know of bars or clubs that open for 18+
  • In general, 18 is enough to get into a strip club. Does the rule apply to New York City as well. If yes, can anyone give me a name. We’d like to pay a visit.
  • What about a comedy club ?
  • Last, if you were me, what would you do ? Any suggestion ?

Thanks a bunch

Hit a comedy club, definitely.

Get a broadway show or two. Even the ones that aren’t really big in name are often very good plays, and sometimes are as cheap as $20-$40.

Finally, restaurants are often overlooked by those visiting NYC. If you look around on the Zagat index, or other restaurant listings, there are some real gems with excellent food.

Upright Citizen’s Brigade is a fine improv club. You may also want to consider skating in Central Park (Wollman rink is cheaper than Rockefeller Center), lining up at TKTS to see theatre.

I have no idea about strip clubs, but Scores is the name of the place where businessmen rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills, so you may want to avoid that place.

Definitely hit UCB! It’s full of cute college students and Amy Poehler is a comic genius. Not sure about strip clubs, but as long as you don’t look like giggling teens, you shouldn’t have trouble getting wine at a restaurant or sitting down at a non-boutique bar.

Yeah, let me just point out that NYC has some of the best restaurants anywhere. The problem is that dopey tourists who come to the city are used to big chain places like Olive Garden, TGIFridays or Red Lobster that generally sit predominantly in a shopping center parking lot. They come to Times Square, see the places they recognize under a 50 foot neon sign and pay $25 for a shitty grilled chicken dinner and say "go.

Most of the good restaurants are a) nowhere near the tourist areas and b) not under an 80 foot neon sign. As SR47 said, a Zagat guide or Citysearch can help you find the best places for your price range.

Thanks a lot everyone for all the useful information. I definitely will check them out.
Anyone wants to comment on the strip clubs ?

Oh, I planned to ask a person out for a fancy dinner, price range around $100 $150, any help ?

What kind of cuisine? Mexican? Steaks? Fusion? French?

Consider Saul’s in Brooklyn.

If you’ll be in NYC on a Monday evening Les Paul does two shows every Monday night and stays around for autographs after the second show. Definitely a great show even if you’re not a Les Paul fan.

Anything but Mexican. French, Steaks, Italian, Thai, Korean, Japaness are all good.
