My friends and I (ages 16-18) desire to leave behind the boring New Years’ At Home and go into the city. I like comedy clubs, but it’d be tough to swing because of the money factor and the minor factor :smack: . Would also like to avoid the chaos at Times Square. Does anyone know of some good, cheap-ish food and entertainment to be had the 31st? (Northern NJ would be okay too, but I figure Manhattan is where it’s at…)
Manhattan is where it’s at, but the minor factor will work against you if you’re looking for “hot” whatever.
I did Times Square as a minor. If it’s warm enough, and you get there early enough (before they shut down “open access” to Times Square) you can actually have a good time. We got there at 5 one afternoon and just plunked ourselves down among the rest of the crowd- we had plenty of room and good camraderie.
It all depends on what you’re after… are you opposed to drinking, do you want low-key? Give a little more info on what oyur ideal night is,a nd maybe we can help.
There’s lots to do in NYC to fit your tastes, but what exactly are those tastes?
Check what is going on at MSG, or some of the theaters (I don’t mean Broadway musicals, though fun, most likely sold out since October). To be honest, your age is going to REALLY limit the fun factor…sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
If it is any consulation, New Years is usually an over-priced, over-hyped event with lots of amatuer drunks. You and your friends would be better off renting a few DVDs, getting pizza and staying at home…but I know that is not what you want to hear. But desperately cruising the very cold city, with millions trying to get taxis that will be scarce and being told you can’t get in here because you are too young, or cover charge is $50…well, think it over.
