30 Day Song Challenge, number 11: A Song From Your Favorite Band.

Favorite band: Third Eye Blind
A good song from them: This one

Yes, this is still going on, I just was more busy than usual in the last week…so here’s two to keep you busy.

Paradise from Within Temptation

Also features one of my favorite singers from another band, Nightwish.

There’s too many bands that I would consider my favourite - none of them really stand out more than the others, but a band I’ve always liked, The Jesus Lizard, put out this little corker:

there were a lot more crazier, effed-up choices I could have made, so I figured I go with something a bit more lol “accessible” for this messageboard.

Pigs (Three Different Ones).

I may have had this album looping in my car for the last week. As a result, I may not be able to listen to it again for a year or so.

Jungle, by Electric Light Orchestra

It wasn’t a single, and isn’t well-known, but it’s a lot of fun, and it’s a good example of their sound.

I somehow missed this gem and only discovered it recently. Les Claypool did a live set of the whole Animals album. Great to hear such a fun tribute.

“You’d Better Believe It” by Hawkwind

I honestly never thought I would go with a more recent track of the Hawks over their more classic output* for my favorite, but this is decadently awesome sci-fi tinged hard rock with a most delicious ‘space jazz/fushion-ish’ creamy center.

    • Although this track is actually a polishing up (and much, MUCH deserved and long awaited one at that) of one of their early (70’s) tunes.

Making the Nature Scene - Sonic Youth

While listening to that record a friend turned to me and asked with only the love and kindness that a good friend can communicate: “Scabpicker, what the fuck are we listening to?”

“Umm, my favorite record by my favorite band.” (shrug)

We’re still good friends.

Soooo easy. From my lovely Alice and boys, here’s Billion Dollar Babies!

Heh. I know that.

Koeeoaddi There, The Incredible String Band

My favorite “band” is the Cleveland Orchestra, and its greatest conductor was George Szell, who led the orchestra from 1946 till his death in 1970. Here is a rare film of Szell, in a rehearsal of the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth.

The Church, A Fire Burns. Typical of them at their peak-melodic, intricate, powerful.

Hearing Jimmy Loud - Drive-By Truckers

So I’ve been trying not to repeat bands in this for no particular reason—but since Nick Cave’s always been the fixed point within the changing constellations of my musical tastes, I’ll cheat a little bit and nominate The Birthday Party - Mutiny in Heaven. Nothing’s ever really resonated with me the way these guys’ music does, although I’d probably most of the time choose his later outfit, the Bad Seeds, when it comes to naming my favorite band.

Pound for pound, my top band is probably still Led Zeppelin, although I already posted a song of theirs on Day 1. I’ll go with Trampled Under Foot because Physical Graffiti is possibly my all-time top album, and I almost posted this one for “Day 9: a song you can dance to” because it’s amazing to me how it manages to be heavy and yet danceable.

You guys gotta give Toto another chance. They are phenomenally talented and they’re nice guys. They’ve been accused of being “corporate” which I’ve never understood because they’re a bunch of guys who knew each other through high school and family ties.

Afraid of Love

I don’t have a favorite band, way too may to choose from. Also, depends on my mood that day.

Since somebody else already took Alice and Zeppelin,

although my choices would have been

Black Juju https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTMH9V9OLdg

and Kashmir https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDwotNLyz10

So many choices…

Enigma - The Child in Us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGsOTXCfY9o

Not a band as such, but Jack Bruce’s early solo albums ( with the able help of Chris Spedding and John Marshall ) are a treasure.

Here’s one: - YouTube

David Bowie - Bombers
Not favorite band, but favorite singer with an early, more obscure favorite.
Favorite band? Hard to pick, but here’s one of mine with a song off one of their best albums.

Roxy Music - Amazona

Pentatonix - Run To You
