30 Rock 11/16

Where is the love? I know it’s out there.
I absoultly loved this ep. The snapple joke had me laughing, Alec Baldwin is a genius at this stuff, and even Tracy Morgan was pretty funny this time.

I know others out there are with me, dont be shy!

I was too lazy to start this thread, glad someone else did!

I’ve never seen the show, and abhor network sitcoms and Tracy Morgan in general, but found this episode to be overall pretty funny, avoiding most of the
usual sitcom jokes & cliches. Alec Baldwin is perfect in this role, and was hilarious last night. The video of him doing the commercial was great, and went on and on in a Sideshow Bob with the rake kind of way.

Disclaimer: I was WWH (watching while high), so this may have upped the laugh quotient.

I laughed harder at the Alec Baldwing blooper reel thing than I’ve laughed in a long time, especially at a sitcom. He’s gold, Jerry, gold!

The Snapple thing in the beginning was pretty good too, then later the guy in the Snapple suit comes out of the elevator. Nice tie-in.

Alec Baldwin has his role nailed down. He’s better and funnier than I would have ever expected. Some of the others have their moments, but right now, Alec is the reason to watch.

This ep. wasn’t a stand-out, but it was still solid, and Jane K. got a little more mileage than in the last few (here’s hoping we see more of her).

Hopefully, the new night will give the show a bump.

If this is going up against Grey’s, I hope NBC doesn’t hold it to a high standard! Thats a tough slot for anything to be in.

I’ve been walking like Alec Baldwin (same arm and leg) all day!

I thought it was a good episode, but the ratings were horrific.

That’s worse than it used to be.

NBC, nobody is watching your one-camera, no-laugh-track comedies. You don’t have a Thursday night any more. Beating The O.C. doesn’t cut it. Try something different.

I liked the episode, but I need a little more Kenneth in each show. I can’t say I missed Jane Krakowski in the last two episodes, but the Muffin Top song was kind of funny, especially the PA announcement calling Jenna and Yo-Yo Ma (Yo-Yo Ma?!) to the stage.

And yeah, Alec Baldwin’s silly walk was priceless.

And GhostFaced Killer.

I never watched it before, but I was cracking up during last nights episode. I’ll definitely watch again.

We never watched before, having seen some hate for it here. But then someone mentioned it was improving.

The opening scene left us cold (I take it this may be because it was 90% Tracy Morgan), but we laughed out loud several times during the rest of the show. “I need two coffee mugs.”

We will probably watch again, give it a chance. We for two like the laughtrackless model (and the NBC ad referencing it).

NBC playing games with the schedule doesn’t help. Betting on people watching only NBC for two hours on a Thursday isn’t going to work.

What happened to Rachel Dratch? I thought she quit SNL specifically to appear in this, but I can’t recall seeing her in last nights episode.

It’s weird. For some reason, people on this show don’t have contracts to appear in every episode – except for Tina, Alec and Tracey.

A) It’s economical. People without run-of-the-show contracts are a lot cheaper.

B) It’s dramatically better. They don’t have to create b-stories to make sure that every person gets some equitable face time in an episode.

This is, what, only the 2nd one I’ve seen. In contrast, I’ve seen every Studio 60….

You know what? This show is better. It’s unafraid to let characters be raving ninnies.

Of course, I could watch Jane Krakowski & Tina Fey in a show with much worse writing than this, & enjoy it.

And… Scrubs is coming back! Ultimate Thursnight laugh city! I won’t miss Grey’s.

(Do Earl & Scrubs not have laugh tracks? Really? Wow, I don’t even notice. At this point, I’d probably notice the presence of a laugh track a lot more.)

All too true. I mentioned in another thread how no laughtrack-less sitcom has ever rated well, and combining that fact with ER’s slight dip in the ratings this season I dubbed NBC’s new Thursday nights as the “low-rated must-see tv.” Of note is that the only sitcom to have good (top 20) ratings in the past few years has been Two and a Half Men.

At this point I think NBC is going to stick to their guns with this no matter how bad the ratings get. Look at the mindless tenacity they’ve shown in supporting the original “silent sitcom.” (“Laughtrack-less” is way awkward.) Scrubs started off with terrible ratings, and got even worse while NBC moved it around and pushed its premieres later and later in the tv season. Year after year this has gone on, and yet still Scrubs survives. They’re like a dog with a bone, refusing to let go. I love it, and will have my ass planted firmly on the couch for Thursday nights to bask in the greatness.

Who knows, maybe this new style of sitcom draws a coveted demographic, similar to Studio 60. Hmmm. Earl, Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Studio 60, Friday Night Lights…NBC is definitely striving for high-brow programming. (Compared to Two and Half Men – which I like – the NBC sitcoms are Shakespeare.) They’ve committed to Studio 60 for a full season despite its low ratings. They’ve stuck with Scrubs. Maybe a high-ranking executive over there saw one too many bad reality shows and pulled a Network. They aren’t taking it anymore, and by god they’ll strive to put out quality shows no matter how few people watch.

That and Tina Fey’s bod.

That was a great episode, pretty much all around. I thought the Snapple guy coming out of the elevator was a little bit of overkill on the product placement joke, so I was glad they didn’t go back to that.

The Jane K. having sex with someone she mistakes as a person of influence was fairly predictable, but was nevertheless pretty funny. I loved the sexy eating of powdered creamer.

Alec Baldwin did rock.

The payoff of the meet-me-naked-on-the-roof bit was gold!
