This show has really found its stride.
“Hey, that was my blood cookie!”
That and Dr. Spaceman, right through Jack’s casual reference to him, had me rolling.
Great episode. This is turning into my favorite comedy in a long time. Conan was great as well.
“You’re a strange man, Kenneth.”
“Thank you, Mr. O’Brien!”
Christ, seeing Kenneth doing his own interview on Conan’s set was my favorite moment of the night. Kenneth has easily become my favorite new character on television. I adore him.
“You don’t want to see me clog, do you??”
I actually talked back to the TV and said “Yes!” last night :o

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Could’ve done without Alec Baldwin requiring Bald Producer guy to wear a wig, but otherwise great…
I never noticed it before, probably because she was always behind the Weekend Update desk, but Tina Fey has a terrific figure!
Rachel Dratch is utterly wasted on this show. They need to bring her in as an ongoing character. The “blue men,” “Liz Taylors” and Latina housekeepers are doing nothing for the show or her career.
We were discussing her last night, and how it must have absolutely sucked for her to leave SNL thinking she was going to play Jenna, only to be kicked out of the part for Jane Krakowski (which must’ve been done by NBC brass…I can’t see Tina Fey kicking her best friend out of the lead role in her show). We were really hoping she’s at least getting a producer credit or a writing credit on this show because otherwise, leaving SNL was probably a big mistake.

Yep - it sucks for Dratch. Having said that, Jane Krakowski - who I really don’t like in most ways - is perfect as the insecure, marginally-talented, bad-decision-making sorta-celebrity they have for that character. It seems like she’s playing herself.
(I know - Krakowski is a Broadway-experienced singer and dancer who is apparently quite talented. But this character is exactly how I have assumed she really is ever since she started popping up in tv roles…)
About the only thing I don’t buy is her friendship with Fey’s character - but given how they portray Fey’s character’s judgment in men, I shouldn’t be surprised.
and Fiver - as for her figure, well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree, but very cool that you get that added eye candy when you watch the show!
From what I’ve read, that is exactly the case.
The big problem is that Dratch would be totally unbelievable as the star of a network effort called The Girlie Show. Krakowski is a zillion times better for the part. She is exactly what the network would cast in the role and Dratch is a cartoon. I also think that Dratch can’t act, or at least I would claw out my eyes if I had to watch her as the lead in a program rather than as a bit player in character sketches, so whether it sucks for her or not they definitely made the right decision.
I seem to be alone in thinking that this episode was over on the wrong side of the weirdness line. It was way too over-the-top. In addition, it was all about nutsy Tracy and demanding Jack, with a side order of insecure Jenna and shlub Liz, jokes they’ve already pounded home without adding anything new. Worst ep so far for me.
Well, I agree with you. I’ve liked this show from the beginning, but this episode felt like it was written by a couple of thirteen year old boys. Tracy Morgan has been funny on this show, but last night he was just stupid.
The only part I laughed at was “Dr. Spaceman”.
We were discussing Dratch last night as well. Her parts in the show so far (I way have missed some) include: the cat wrangler; Liz Taylor in the shadows; and now the imaginary blue guy.
It’s one thing to be demoted from a starring role to a series of walk-ons. The walk-ons (especially the one last night) make it seem as though she’s being deliberately punished by someone. I mean, is she going to be cast as furniture next?
I do kind of like the show, but I’m definitely not a Tracy Morgan fan. I like Fey, I like Krakowski, I like Kenny and I love Baldwin, but Morgan just annoys me…
Best episode yet. ‘I am a stabbing robot!’ Perfectly ridiculous, and Conan cameos are always a plus (he’s so sexy in his non-Sears suit, too). Dratch is utterly wasted. What a horrible case of life imitating art (idiot execs retooling good shows-- at least form what I gleaned form the original pilot, which had her as one of the main players).
I love Tina Fey, I don’t mind Tracy Morgan, I think Krakowski is amazingly hot, & I (don’t hit me, Tina) really got sick of Rachel Dratch after a while. Hearing that Rachel would be on 30 Rock made me leery of even watching it. So I don’t object to Krakowski being on the show in her place, although imagining homely little Rachel trying to play the same character is occasionally funny:
“I will use my … sexuality!”
Amen. She has never struck me as funny.
And yes, Tina’s butt turns out to be perfect. Who knew?
