33 on the Rolling Rock label

Hello to all!

i have a comment on the answer to “Why is there a 33 on the Rolling Rock label?”. i do not know why there is a 33, but any of the explanations sound good.

My comment is that the “Poem” on the label is quoted incorrectly.

The words on the labels today begin “Rolling Rock, From the glass lined tanks of Old Latrobe…” The archive incorrectly says “Rolling Rock, From glass lined tanks in the Laurel Highlands…” Both of which contain the same number of words! (33 for the whole thing…) My vote for the likely explanation.

For what it’s worth, i’ve also heard that the brewmaster was of the highest ranked Freemasons. 32 Levels that the public knows of, and the supersecret, super-evil 33rd Order…

Whatever. it tastes good on a hot day

rolling33rock, maybe the words in the “poem” have changed since the time that the Straight Dope article was published? That’s not the kind of error that Cecil Adams usually makes. I have some bottles of Rolling Rock in the fridge, so I’ll check this evening.

Arnold, you cad… what are you implying? What kind of error IS the kind that Cecil USUALLY makes?

From eBay can

Which can, by the way was described as 20 years old at least, and got no bids.

[Walter Cronkite voice]Times change, and so do owners of breweries and packaging. That’s what’s happening, on July 18, 2001.{/Walter Cronkite voice]

Ahhh…wistful memories of my first post. Does that mean I’m no longer a newbie?

Well, for one thing, Cecil sometimes trusts his assistants or his editor too much.

Another error is that when posters diss the SDMB moderators, he allows them to live. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh. That’s just Divine Mercy, though.
