360 Degree Pictures

I’m looking for software similar to IPIX where I can import a bunch of pictures and have the software splice them together to make a seemless 360x360 picture. I’m also curious about how they do the 36 degree pictures of products. Similar to what circuit city has on their website. You can rotate around one item. Anyone have any ideas where I could get this?

Panorama Factory will stitch together your pictures and make a Quicktime VR out of it. Very similar to IPIX. I’ve been very pleased with the results from this.

I don’t know any free software that will make the other type of Quicktime VR (QTVR Objects).

Quicktime Authoring Studio is a good one for both applications.

While 360º panoramic images are created by rotating the camera, 360º pictures of products (known as “Object Movies”) are created by rotating the object. The object is placed on the turntable and several photos are taken as it is rotated. The software then stitches the images together in the movie.

Sorry…

The object is placed on a turntable and several photos are taken as it is rotated. The software then stitches the images together into a movie.

Unfortunately, Quicktime Authoring Studio is Mac-only and $400.

Panoguide has a list of VR authoring software, and it looks like PhotoVista 3D Objects and VR Worx can create object movies on the PC platform. I didn’t look into how much they cost, though.

Here’s an example of an object VR turntable. Actually, they also list some other software.

Well irfanview www.irfanview.com will let you stitch together a panoramic picture from a series, and its freeware, but I don’t think it’ll let you do the rotating camera thing.

There’s a really good program called Photostitch, it came with my Canon printer but I think it’s bundled with other hardware, and it may be shareware/freeware somewhere online. It makes flawless panoramics and Quicktime VRs (smooths the edges between photos, sometimes you can’t even tell it’s more than 1 image). The only downside is it just does panoramic, not 360 from what I can tell.
