Dad slipped away from us this morning. It was painless and quiet. I’m glad he didn’t linger and hurt. We’re headed to visit the family tomorrow to write the obituary with my step mom and half and step siblings. I haven’t told my mom yet. I need her to eat before I tell her. She will need all the calories she can get for her own battle.
My mom’s cancer has likely returned. Her surgeon was carefully non-committal about treatment options, which tells me the prognosis is not good. I tell myself we don’t have all the information. A miracle could occur, but he was pretty transparent the monster is probably back.
And @bippityboppityboo is pretty excited about it! A micro mini mump fest! .
It;s my daring holiday treat to myself and about the only excitement I have planned.
Drive from Lincoln to Omaha, pizza party with @LH75 and his lovely bride, regretfully pull myself away to go to neurologist for my umptyeleven Botox injections, then scamper home down the interstate before dark, before nighttime driving gets difficult, like the old lady I am.
So very sorry for your loss, but I’m glad it was a peaceful passing. And sorry your mom is dealing with cancer again/still.
Hugs to your and all of your family.
There better be pics! Don’t make me give you both The Look!!! And safe travels.
MetalMouse - safe travels to you, too. Beware of crazies on the road!
We had breakfast in Lisa’s section, and I made sure she got a bigger than usual tip today. I’ve cleaned the trunk mat and put Roxy’s seat back in the car. I rinsed the carpet cleaner and it’s disassembled and drying in the hall bathroom. First load in the washer, 2 more to go. And it’s not 11AM yet! Go me!
Today’s tacky - we got a “Christmas card” from a local realtor. There’s a photo of him in a Santa suit on a motorcycle, a caption that says “Jesus is the reason for the season” and a note that says “I love referrals.” It went right into the recycle bin. Sheesh.
Turns out FCD’s Medicare won’t pay for his hospital because technically, he’ll be an outpatient and if he stays overnight, it’ll be for observation. They just pay for hospital stays. Nifty, huh? Always something.
Laundry is done and chicken is thawing for supper. I’m going to try the sous vide again. It did well with the steak - we’ll see how it does with chicken breasts. I’ll do one in teriyaki and one with my rotisserie rub. Leftovers will become chickie salad.
That will be it for the balance of the day, I think.
Our heat is out. I was sitting here this morning wondering why the house wasn’t feeling warmer, then realized that only cold air was coming out of the registers. Luckily, it’s not next week when the temps will be in the 20s and teens. I’m really hoping that it’s just a bad igniter and not another $10,000 bill waiting to be paid. We have space heaters to keep the chill off until tomorrow when the tech arrives.
Check out this video before getting someone to come and fix your furnace. Cleaning your flame sensor is very simple, and is very often the cause of a gas furnace not igniting
I am just back from the Mini Mumper Lunch Meeting with our friend BBBoo. We had a delightful time meeting face to face and had some old school South O pizza.
nellie all the hugs for you! I wish I was close enough to be useful.
Wow! Please each of you hug the other one for me. ETA: Thank you for picture!!!
talky my deepest condolences on your dad’s passing. I’m sorry things are so rough right now.{{{hugs}}}
I actually went out and visited Trader Joe’s. I wanted their peppermint bark, which it turns out is not a thing this year. I will say that people are inconsiderate jerks and should never be allowed out in polite society. I left before ramming my cart into the next person cut in front me, but I’ve had my fill of people time for now.
Pixel is not well today. We’ll see how the day goes.
The lunch special at that place is a six inch one topping pizza with a salad and a soft drink for 7.99. Sunflower and I had hamburger, BBBoo had Canadian bacon.
There is an ongoing rivalry here as to who has the best pizza. No pizza chains need apply. Big Fred’s changed hands and the quality went off a cliff. Still standing are La Casa, Casio’s, Sergeant Peffer’s, Mamma’s, Orsie’s and Sortino’s. We were at Sortino’s, but all of the above serve a great pizza
You may have seen my headlight thread in FQ. One lamp is failing, so I want to replace both of them. I saw a video that started out ‘First you take the wheel off…’ Um. Nope. Toyota said I could pull into one of their Express service bays, so I made the half-hour trek. Got there, and the service guy said, ‘Uh… This is going to take longer than I thought.’ Apparently he thought it was just a matter of pulling the old lamp out and putting a new one in. If it were only that, I’d do it myself! So I have to go back at 17:00. I’ll get there early.
Side note: There was a bar here called Wild Willie’s. The owner cut off a corner and started serving pizza. At that time it was local, but Wild Willie was Willie Theison and his bar was where Godfather’s Pizza was born
The way they assemble cars now is just nuts. I used to have a Ram 2500 pickup. Gigantic thing, and you’d expect parts would be easy to get at. You’d be wrong. Didn’t need to remove wheels, but the headlamp retaining screws were accessed from the wheel wells. Changing spark plugs almost demands removing the engine. My Kia Soul’s bulbs are packed in pretty snug as well, and removing the battery or air intake makes it a lot easier to get at them.
Woke up at Oh crap now what o’clock (3 AM) this morning with beeping and clicking noises. The power was cutting in and out, and kitchen appliances beep loudly when they wake up. For about ten minutes, this went on as if someone was rapidly flipping a switch on and off, then the power stayed off. Went back to sleep, and about two hours later, the power came back on with more beeping, clicking, and the laser printer stirring itself with whirring and clacking. Then on and off again like earlier, and eventually staying off until after 11 AM.
At least I have a gas stove and a french press so I could have coffee.
My daughter had a New Beetle. For headlight replacement, the owner’s manual said take it to the dealer. Seriously? For a headlight??? So I used my Google-fu and found step-by-step instructions with illustrations. It was not easy at all! But it was doable, and she had to do it several times over the years she owned the car.
Even older, I think it was my Chevette that required you to remove the front trim, and naturally, it wasn’t installed with phillips or straight-slot screws. You needed torx screwdrivers! At the time, I didn’t have any (this was pre-FCD) so I just bent the trim enough to get to the phillips screws behind the trim.
At least on my Sonata, bulb replacement is relatively simple, apart from “Don’t get the oil of your fingers on the bulbs!!!” So latex gloves or hold with a tissue. Whatever.
Supper is cooking - chickie tits in the sous vide bath, rice in the steamer, green beans/onions/mushrooms in the fry pan on very low. Yum ahead!
I bought my wife a 1979 Chevy Malibu with the 267 V8. In order to change the rear most spark plugs I had to put the front end on jack stands and remove the front wheels. Also needed were two flexible socket extensions.
Worst car we ever bought, and we both had Ford Pintos at one point
My '07 Tacoma isn’t hard to replace headlights on, just way too often. I’ve had it 14 years now and have replaced probably 25 headlight bulbs. Seems unreasonable to me.
gotti Hope the power comes back soon and stays on. (I think that’s yer mumper nick.)
Anyway, snow has stopped over in Maine, so’s I’ll be doing the long drive tomorrow.
I had nearly the same problem with my 71 Plymouth 383. I could reach one plug from the top with two wobblies. The rest had to be from underneath the car with an extension and a wobbly and by touch; couldn’t actually see any of them. I suspect it would have been easier if I’d taken off the tires and removed the snap-in fender access, for certain values of “easier”.
