We’ll be breaking the drive into 2 days, which will help. I-95 sucks at its best, but there’s no other option. Well, there’s 301, but we don’t want to spend a week on the road…
Roxy must have been over-tired - she was a bit of a pill tonight. I don’t know if she’s fallen asleep yet. She wanted to go home. She wanted me to sleep with her. She was too scared to close her eyes. At least she’s quiet for the moment.
I’ve built the french toast casserole for tomorrow and I’ve tidied the kitchen. I think it’s time to sit and chill.
He won’t let me put double sided tape on the counters.
Honestly, it is funny. Cooking beer stinks IMO. Hubs starts cooking around 6 am and I try to sleep through as much of the stink as possible, bedroom door tightly closed.
The last step in making beer is to put the pot in an ice bath to cool it as quickly as possible. I can always tell when he’s at this step because George lurves him some ice cubes and will constantly jump on the counter to splash around in the ice bath. Hubs always sounds so outraged that I can’t help but wake up laughing.
I question whether Mr. Talky has actually met any cats.
If you’re very lucky
I’m about to offer to take him myself…
I hope they get your back figured out soonest. Please don’t push yourself too hard.
shady {{{hugs}}} On the plus side, you’re almost through the rough patch. On the down side, we’re almost done with 2021, and where did the year go? I feel like the last two years of my life are just a void.
boofae is it actually called a cattery? It seems very British. Safe travels and enjoy Las Vegas!
I missed replying to you earlier, I’m sorry, that was a very rude response to your very kind offer. Thank you, but no. I couldn’t ask a poor college student to send two packages internationally, that would be very churlish. I’m disappointed but I am also 64 years old and this is only the second bad gift exchange that has happened to me in my life, so I know how to move on.
The first time was a mandatory thing in middle school and I got a gift wrapped pocket sized candy tin filled with rocks. That was much more upsetting.
He’s going to grow up. He’s going to settle down. He’s going to turn into a cat. If he lives long enough.
Do you have a corded keyboard? I’ve had much success with putting them in the top rack of my dishwasher and then letting them air dry for a few days. Pull the keys off if you can and wrap the cord up so it won’t get tangled with the dishwasher spinny things. They usually work like brand new afterwards and the two that didn’t? Well, they were already broke so I didn’t make things worse.
You CAN’T have her!!! Poaching housekeepers and landscapers is a thing out here. If someone asks for a recommendation, I always check with her to be sure she wants another house before giving out her number. Currently, she doesn’t want another house, but she does have a waiting list.
We call a couple of yard guys out a couple of times a year to do the heavy stuff. Hubs called recently to learn that they were booked out until the end of February.
VGC has recovered enough from the trauma to come out from under the bed. The bacon strip I nuked had nothing to do with it, he’s a brave kitty, yes he is and he deserves bacon and scritches.
Up too early, but whatcha gonna do? I’m about to hit the shower and dress before getting Roxy up. We’ll leave around 7:30 for breakfast at her mama’s house. And presents.
After we get home, there will be eggs to devil and chocolate chip cookies to bake. The trip to FL has changed my weekend plans, but no biggie. Glad I did laundry earlier this week.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 36 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is two, count 'em two, Christmas Eve services over to the church house. One at four p.m. and then again at ten-thirty p.m. I get to Verge for the first and be Crucifer/Chalice Bearer for the second. I shall manage daily sloth around those two events. Any need to feed today will be via forage.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah. I don’t have to purtify just yet, however.
swampy - I talked to my mom yesterday - their first Christmas Eve service is a 3! And that’s when she’s going, because like me, she doesn’t drive at night.
Roxy woke up as I was getting dressed - she’s watching Blaze and the Monster Machines while FCD showers and dresses. I’ve tended to the critters and I’ve got everything staged that needs to go in the car. We’ll leave in about 30 minutes or so.
I also pulled out some butter and eggs to come to room temp so I can make a batch of cookies when we get home. FIL does love cookies. I need to make a list so I remember everything we’re going to take with us. No cooler full of food this time, since we hadn’t planned ahead for this trip. Maybe I’ll root around in the freezer and see if there’s something we can take. I think I have a chuck roast in there.
Roxy has informed me that the pink present under her tree is for me, and she’s all excited to open the big red one for her (it’s the big lego-like blocks - I think they’re generic Duplo blocks.) I think she’ll get a kick out of the Blaze character monster trucks, too. Christmas is so cool with littles!
I’m super excited to see the littles open their presents and play with them tomorrow. There is nothing like Christmas through a small child’s eyes. Adam isn’t quite old enough to appreciate what the hoopla is about, but Zoe is getting it. I found out she loves Christmas decorations, so in honor of her, I’m putting out my candy cane lights on the front want today. I hope they still work!
Holy schneikes! I picked up my roast yesterday and they were certainly proud of it. That is the most I’ve ever paid for a roast, every, even exceeding last year’s high price. I paid almost 19 dollars a pound, and it was 17-pound roast. Do the math. : Seriously, that was stupid expensive and I question whether we’ll do this next year.
Today all that is left is dusting, floor scrubbing, and vacuuming. Then I can relax for a bit before I bake a cake for tomorrow’s dessert. I am baking either a very decadent chocolate cake or Gewuerzkuchen which is darn close to the spice cake I grew up making from my mother’s german cookbook. I have all the spices except for mace. I can’t find that stuff for love or money at the stores. I should have just ordered it online. Anyway, we’ll see. I’m leaning more to the second option only because it won’t be as rich as the chocolate cake and the meal we’re having is rich, so the chocolate cake may be overkill.
They are still threatening us with snow, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
Have a Siamese cat warming my lap, preventing me from getting up and finding hidden grandchildren presents and wrapping them, prior to going over to my daughters for a Christmas Eve lunch and present opening by the grandchildren. I’ll come home early afternoon to an undecorated house, my roommate will be working from home til 6, then I’ll drive her over to her daughter to drop off those presents, with a stop a Walgreens to find a card for said kid.
Tomorrow will be at home, nothing planned except me resting and trying to find some energy. Roommate working in her room. We may cook a big pot of chicken soup together~she loves soup.
The Christmas bah! humbugs! have me by the throat. Today is the 4th anniversary of the accident that led to a traumatic brain injury that brought my life as I enjoyed it to a screeching halt. It’s the saddest, bleakest day of the year, like a little death I die again every year and I’d rather cry then try to wrap presents and act merry. But I will try to be merry.
I am grateful for all of you and you all bring smiles and light~I just have to get through today.
There’s a dusting of snow outside, but it sounds like rain. The Sun won’t be up for over an hour, so I can’t see if it’s rain, or a rain-snow mix.
The expected 9ºF low on Sunday is now expected to be 5º according to The Weather Channel. I called my mechanic yesterday, and he said a fully-charged battery won’t freeze. The battery in the MGB is charged, so rather than remove it and bring it inside I’ll put the charger on it before Sunday. I also need to fill the hummingbird feeder (it has a little light bulb underneath it to heat it), and plug in the heat tape on the outside water pipe. I’m hoping the insulated pipes under the house don’t freeze. We have the space heater on in the back bedroom, next to the wall where the deep sink’s drain is.
BBB, I am so sorry that this time of year is so sorrowful and that you had to endure such a traumatic accident and injury. I wish I could more than send internet hugs, but I am sending them.
Chilly 34 degrees at the park this morning.
Five people and seven dogs. No Barky.
Echo was a little bitch again this morning, first time in quite a while. She went after poor Molly. I’m not sure why, they have always been okay with each other. Never really play together, just kind of ignore each other. It may have been over the water bowl that I was getting ready to fill. Then later she went after Roxy, but that was over treats from the treat ladies. The treat ladies are two older women who walk by the park most mornings and always have a bag of treats to hand out through the fence. Echo can get a little pushy sometimes, but the regular pack doesn’t let her get away with it.
She never hurts the dogs she goes after, so it’s not a real fight. A lot of noise, but if you watch her, she turns her mouth away from them so she never bites them. She just growls and pushes them around.
Molly and Roxy don’t come all the time, but Echo has known them since she was a puppy so it was a surprise to see her go after them.
I’m decided to take off irk today.
I have things to do, but it’s more that I just don’t feel like irking.
I really can’t afford to lose the pay, and I’m taking off tomorrow too, but screw it. I need a break.
Last night’s reunion/dinner with my HI friends was a success! It was so great to see them again. The eating part went well, too. My options were either a half chicken from the regular menu, or some smoked salmon from the kids’ menu: happily our server had no problem allowing me to order from the kids’ menu, so I had salmon for the first time in my life. I liked it! I brought the leftovers home, and might have some for lunch. In the past week I ate restaurant food three times, and I’m super grateful that there were never any issues.
I actually have a meeting this morning (in about 20 minutes), but it’s for my volunteer committee and not work so I don’t really mind. And it should be quick.
It was 9am here…does that help?

When I used to take Bailey to the dog park, I hated it when people would show up with treats. All of the dogs would go nuts, and the people never bothered to ask if it was OK to give something to someone else’s dog! Second only to the treat people were the toy people, who would bring a toy for only their dog to play with. Yeah…that never works in a dog park.
(One time, a woman brought her tiny little dog into the main dog park and started throwing tiny little balls for her tiny little dog: that lasted for about 1 minute, because several of us quickly pointed out that a bigger dog could easily choke on one of the tiny little balls and asked her to put them away.)
