I really only thought one scene was completely unnecessary. The scene where the black guy comes in and tries to get all sorts of discounts and freebies from the guy who’s name I can’t remember. What was that about? Did it go somewhere and I missed it? It wasn’t particularly funny. Maybe it was part of a deleted scene that will make it on DVD?
I guess it was there to be funny and to have Jay break down and cry so he could tell Andy his way of dealing with women was the right way.
I’m a little late to the party (what else is new?) but we just saw it on Friday. Somehow there were only 8 people in the theatre, four couples, and we loved it.
I’ve been doing the “You know how I know you’re gay?” to my SO ever since…cracks me up every time.
I laughed my head off. It was the perfect thing we needed, a totally light-hearted stress-free movie.
And my boyfriend also found the young girl hot. But he’s 29, so I suppose he’s at the right age to find 19 YOs attractive.
As if there’s a wrong age.
Quick note: I saw it again over the weekend; my brother-in-law was in town and really wanted to see it.
It was just as funny and I laughed just as hard. And I appreciated the characters and line delivery that much more. Clearly one to own for me.
Loved the movie, especially the ending! Not only the musical, but the sub-title cards just before that.
(One minute later)
What it amounts to is a romantic comedy for men. Of course, if they’d advertised it that way, I imagine they would have lost a lot of the audience they were shooting for.
“You know how I know you’re gay? You went to see a movie advertised as 'a romantic comedy for men.” Incidentally, the way Carell stood up while drunk at the bar was amazing. The audience started applauding!
By the way, I saw Anchorman over the weekend. The movies are kinda similar in style, but I thought 40-Year-Old Virgin was funnier and had more depth.
No kidding. Anchormen was stupid, pointless drivel.
Although the fight between all of the anchors was the only redeeming point.
Hey! At least I don’t like Coldplay…
Sig! I reiterate, Dude, you rock.
It was a Will Ferrell movie, but it was definitely funnier than I expected. I could never totally hate a movie that lets Steve Carell say things like “I killed a guy with a trident.”
I loved - LOVED - this movie. Yeah it had its raunchy moments but it wasn’t nearly as …dumb…as I thought it might be.
The ending, with “Aquarius,” had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe. It’s funny on its own, but the fact that my chorus sang that this spring with choreography made it that much better.
I agree. It had a certain…innocence to it that made it a lot more likeable than I thought it would be. I think that in the long run, this movie may have an Office Space-like following, but only time will tell.
That was an immediate comparison for me. It was a highly quotable movie, that’ll help.
