5 Arab illegals -- where did the photos come from?

Regarding the 5 Arab men who the F.B.I. are looking for, who supposedly entered the U.S. illegally a week or so ago… Their names and pictures have been in the newspapers every day, but now it appears that the pictures may not be accurate, and the names as well may not be accurate.

My question is: Where did these names and photos come from? Were they off of passports? Did someone take their pictures and ask them their names when they crossed the border?

I don’t want to start a discussion of the anti-terrorism effort, I am just wondering where in the world the names and pictures supposedly came from.

Apparently, at least one photo is wrong. This guy who lives in Pakistan came forward and said that one of the five photos is his. It would seem that the pic was appropriated for a false ID.

But exactly how did the FBI get the photos and identify them as these particular people? From the Customs Service, the border patrol, some mysterious informant, etc.?

High school yearbooks ?

The guy in Pakistan.

So my guess would be passport photos. Interpol?

So then WHO provided these photos to the FBI? Who determined that these guys entered the country illegally? Nobody stood there and took their pictures when they crossed over. Was the FBI just given a list of names by someone, and then the FBI got the pictures from somewhere? If so, how did they get the names? The thing I’m trying to figure out is that the news reports are now saying that neither the names nor the pictures can be assumed to be accurate. However, The FBI alterted everyone in the U.S. to look for these guys. I’m assuming that this info may have been reported somewhere over the past few days, and that I missed reading it. Otherwise it’s “top secret” for some reason.

Or nonexistent. The names are wrong. The pics are wrong. If the FBI had information like that, and wanted to be honest about it, they could have alerted us to “some bad arab guys”. That’s what it’s come down to.

The news reports I saw this morning and yesterday on NBC named a guy with a history of making (and being convicted of such) false passports and IDs. He’s apparently giving up information.

Or rather bad information. I wonder if he is one of those being tortured and is doing this to get them off his back for a while. Why else?

A “rumor” that I heard on CBC was that they came from Canadian Passports. So, if that was the case, I would guess that either CSIS or the RCMP may have forwarded them to the FBI.

He’s been convicted for making false IDs/passports before - maybe he’s looking to cut a deal and figures that the more information (true or false, as long as it sounds juicy) he gives out, the more lenient they may be.

Yes, you’d think if Canada had the information of who they are pretending to be, the FBI would have it. If their passport doctor was giving up the information, he would give up their new names, not just their original names. There may be an explanation for this odd warning, but I haven’t heard one.
