or iTunes, or whatever you use to computify your music. If you sort by ‘Play Count’, what comes up on top? Inspired by First five songs on your iPod.
On mine -
Warm up - me (64)
Ventura Highway - America (24)
I am a Man of Constant Sorrow - The Soggy Bottom (Boys, from the ‘O Brother, Where art Thou?’ soundtrack (19)
Anniversary, from Letters to a Musical Friend - Buczinsky, Walter (19)
Why I like Brahms, from Letters to a Musical Friend - Buczinsky, Walter (18)
So mine is really skewed a) because just about anything in double digits is something I’ve had to lift/learn/work on/play or sing along with and b) because I had a complete failure of the hard drive in early Jan., and so this list only covers this year.
So, I’m curious what other Dopers have listened to most.
It looks like the list is the same for my iPod and for iTunes. Seems they sync up the play counts so I don’t get to see my differential listening habits.
“Leeds United” by Amanda Palmer–46 plays
Most of the album In Rainbows by Radiohead–kinda tied* for 23-28 plays
“Super Sexy Woman” by Sufjan Stevens–28 plays
“Us” by Regina Spektor–26 plays
“Fake Palindromes” by Andrew Bird–23 plays
*I don’t want my top 5 to be obliterated by a bunch of songs that I usually listened to as a complete album, so I cheated. Besides, the last time I played them was June of last year, so I don’t even feel bad about it.
Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce
Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing - Buffalo Springfield
Like A Hurricane - Neil Young
My Back Pages - Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert
Pancho & Lefty - Emmylou Harris
Tough one man. I’ll bump it up to top 10 songs, but without a specific order. All I know is that I listen to these songs a lot.
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd Clint East Wood by Gorillaz Don’t Look back in Anger by Oasis
**The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix) **- Nathan Fake I Am The Walrus - The Beatles River (Robert Babicz Remix) by Phonique Baile Me by Gipsy Kings Grita by Jarabe de Palo Waiting in Vain by Bob Marley Black Dog by Led Zeppelin
All of my counts are really, really low. I don’t know why that is; I know I have listened to these songs more than what’s listed. And there are a shit load of songs that I apparently never have listened to, although I have. Does it not count when you listen via shuffle? That’s what I generally do. Anyhow…top ten …
Army Dreamers- Kate Bush
Paralyzed- Elf Power
Walk Don’t Run- The Ventures
World Where You Live- Crowded House
Atom Tan- The Clash
There is a Mountain- Donovan
Arthur- The Kinks

(Asleep At the Wheel)

(Gruesome Three)
Ebay (Parody of “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys)
(“Weird Al”)
You Know My Name
(Beatles)
Plastic Jesus
(Paul Newman vocal) (Cool Hand Luke, Original Soundtrack Recording)
Unsurprisingly, 4 out of the top 6 played tracks are on my workout playlist.
Fall Out Boy “Dance, Dance” 91 plays
The Underwater “First Shot” 74 plays
Finger Eleven “Falling on” 50 plays/“Paralyzer” 49 plays
Make Believe “Say What You Mean” 44 plays
Black Lab “She Loves Me” 44 plays
The big draw back to the play count on Music Match is that it only counts songs once you’ve officially added the track to the library. I add every new track for the month on the same day, so songs like “Sour Cherry” by The Kills that I’ve already listened to 30 times this month won’t reflect having been played at all until the beginning of July.
I’ll use my Rhapsody Library play count instead - 11,336 tracks - plays on full random 99.9% of the time

Five Years Time I had on autorepeat for awhile. Ana Ng by TMBG was my autorepeat song a while before I got this computer or that would probably be in the hundreds.
Well, this is a little embarrassing (and inevitable). Please keep in mind that I got my current iPod about a week after this season of American Idol started. And I use it almost exclusively on my subway commute, and at least half that time I’m listening to podcasts and not music at all, so it’s not like I’m listening to this sort of thing all day long, every day. Okay? Okay?!?!

Ha! I guess that’s not as much of a contrast as it used to be. I really must start branching out a bit more.
