What 5 songs currently top your most played list in iTunes?

What 5 songs lead the way in your Top 25 Most Played list. Mine are:

  1. Sea Wolf - You’re a Wolf - 58x

This is embarrassing…

  1. Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce
  2. Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing - Buffalo Springfield
  3. Nights On Broadway - Bee Gees
  4. Dance With Me Tonight - The Wonders
  5. Midnight Wind - John Stewart

ETA: My computer is brand new, so there haven’t been that many plays in this version of iTunes to begin with.

Without looking, 4 Glee songs, and that T-Bone Burnett song Quasi got me hooked on

Since the start of 2010 when I got this computer:

  1. Take That - ‘The Flood’ (71 plays)
  2. Hurts - ‘Wonderful Life’ (64 plays)
  3. Willow Smith - ‘Whip My Hair’ (63 plays)
  4. Cher - ‘Save Up All Your Tears’ (56 plays)
  5. Kylie Minogue - ‘Get Outta My Way’ (56 plays)

The only one I’m a bit sick of is ‘Whip My Hair’, I think I’ll be giving it a rest for a while.

I mainly use winamp so this list is… skewed.

  1. Bach - Air on a G String
  2. Bach - Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major
  3. Friday the 13th part VII theme
  4. Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
  5. Radiohead - Jigsaw Fallin into Place

and number 6 which I wish was higher Venice Beach Boys - Just a closer walk with thee

I don’t use itunes but in the past six months these songs (added to my mp3 collection over that period) are the most commonly played according to my MusicMatch stats.

  1. Middle Class Rut “New Low”
  2. Birds Of Tokyo “Silhouetics”
  3. The Rapture “No Sex For Ben”
  4. The Old 97s “Dance With Me”
  5. The Pierces “Love You More”

New Young Pony Club’s “Architect Of Love” is a distant sixth.

  1. Clash City Rockers - The Clash
  2. Complete Control - The Clash
  3. Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkns
  4. Perspex Icon - Wire
  5. Ugly Girl Lover - Flop

These are, however, all heavily influenced by my exercise playlist, which has songs with an 85-90 cadence (so either a tempo of 85-90 bpm or 170-180 bpm, depending on whether I’m running to the quarter notes or eight notes.)

Eliminating exercise music gets me this:

  1. Help Me Mary - Liz Phair
  2. Mass Romantic - New Pornographers
  3. Little Ones - Parts & Labor
  4. Entropy - Flop
  5. The Headmaster Ritual - The Smiths

Hallelujah–Jeff Buckley
Zoot Suit Riot–Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Skylark–k.d. lang
Orange Colored Sky–Natalie Cole
Bad Influence–Pink

  1. Fisherman’s Woman - Emiliana Torrini tied with Adagio for Strings (Barber) - Tokyo String Quartet and Norwegian Wood - 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (77x)
  2. Sodom is Free - Venus Outback (75x)
  3. Hymn to St. Cecilia, Op. 27: In a garden shady (Benjamin Britten) - Robert Shaw Festival Singers (74x)
  4. The other 8 tracks of the Venus Outback CD “Spiron Johd” (73x)
  5. Aaj Ki Raat (Tonight is the Night) - Kronos Quartet (68x)

This is a cross section of the album I’ve listened to the most in the past couple of years as a mood-soother, and tracks from the playlist of classical/instrumental I play in the background when I’m writing or studying.

Bad Girlfriend Theory of a Deadman 108
Pocketful of Sunshine Natasha Bedingfield 97
Sock It to Me, Baby! Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels 94
Promises The Cranberries 86
Sleeping Satellite Tasmin Archer 84

F**k You- Cee Lo Green 30
I Can’t Stand The Rain- Graham Central Statioin 27
E-Pro- Beck 26
Sweetest Goodbye- Maroon 5 22
The Distance- Cake 21
The results would be radically different if I did it on my iPod.

  1. Abolish Government/Silent Majority – TSOL
  2. Amoeba – The Adolescents
  3. Tomorrow Never Knows – The Beatles
  4. Puttin’ on the Ritz – (Sung by) Fred Astaire
  5. Hit the Road, Jack – Ray Charles

Abolish Government is ahead of the others by at least ten plays.

Just checked. The list is the same on my iPod.

  1. I Hope you Die- Bloodhound Gang
  2. Baby I love you-Aretha Franklin
3.I’m so sick of you -Cake
4.You Really got a Hold on Me- Smokey Robinson
    5.Mama’s Always On Stage-Arrested Development
  1. “Stuck On You” - Sugarland
  2. “River Deep, Mountain High” - Ike & Tina Turner
  3. “Too Many Fish In the Sea” - the Marvelettes
  4. “Right As Rain” - Adele
  5. “New York” - Ryan Adams
  1. Eruyt Village, Final Fantasy XII soundtrack, 89x

  2. Carbon, Tori Amos, 68x (although that would be a lot higher if I hadn’t reset the playcount a while back)

  3. I’m on Fire, Bruce Springsteen, 55x

  4. Strange, Tori Amos, 49x

  5. Crazy, Tori Amos, 49x

  6. Calm Before the Storm, Final Fantasy X soundtrack, 48x

That’s kind of odd to look at, considering the music I listen to in my car is either nasty heavy metal, funk or alt-country.

I didn’t realize it until now, but those FF soundtracks have about taken over my top 25. Out of 25, 8 are from those soundtracks, 13 are from Scarlet’s Walk by Tori Amos, 2 are Springsteen, 1 is Great Big Sea and 1 is Ian Thornley.

I’m surprised what came up.

  1. Waiting – Santana
  2. Lola – The Kinks
  3. Good Times Bad Times – Led Zeppelin
  4. Eleanor Rigby – The Beatles
5t. Got to Get You Into my Life – The Beatles
5t. So What – Miles Davis
    5t. Freddy Feeloader

The list is somewhat random. I usually listen to an album at a time; the variation here is probably because the song came up randomly more than many others. Only three plays separate my first from fifth choices, and only six plays separate #1 from #40, so one or two extra random plays make a difference.
