Jim Morrison
John Lennon
Roger Waters
Jimmy Page
David Gilmour
Leonard Cohen
Mozart
Selena (Quintanilla-Perez)
J.S. Bach
Warren Zevon
In no particular order.
So, Jimbo, what was it like in the early days?
*I’m the fuckin’ Lizard King, man… *
I had a hard time thinking of musicians that’d be coherent, let alone up for witty banter:
David Byrne
Dave Brubeck
Eric Clapton
Patti Smith
Neil Young
Rachmaninoff
Tchaikovsky
Gershwin
Itzhak Perlman
Barbra Streisand
Billie Holiday
Robert Johnson
Gram Parsons
Jelly Roll Morton
Fats Waller.
Bob Dylan
Eric Clapton
Tom Waits
Van the man
Leon Redbone
Tom Paxton
Kinky Friedman
Leonard Cohan
George Harrison
Bob Dylan (though in talking to people who have actually talked to him, he is a very quiet person.)
Nina Persson
Andrea Corr
Susanna Hoffs
Dolores O’Riordan
Siouxsie Sioux
A hot tub setting and some time travel might be involved.
Jim Morrison
Glenn Danzig
Paul McCartney
Hank Williams
Patsy Cline
Diana Ross
Fred Schneider
Carole King
Kate Bush
Jim Croce
J.S. Bach
Mozart
Schumann
Wagner
Mahler
Shit. I’m gonna have to learn German. Otherwise it’s going to be really uncomfortable in there.
Benjamin Britten
Vivian Stanshall
Duane Allman
Cole Porter
Frank Zappa
Any folks you’d like to chat up (living or dead) who speak a language you can?
Frank Zappa
D. Boon
Mick Farren
Sonny Sharrock
Bill Laswell
I’d like to chat with Dave Brubeck (who I have talked to in the past), Paul Desmond, Joe Morello and Eugene Wright in a room full of their instruments. Just for kicks, add Cleo Laine to the mix.
My talking will be limited to making requests.
I forgot about Jim, I’ll bet he’d have some great stories.
Leonard Cohen
Neil Diamond
George Harrison
John Mellencamp
Florence Welch
Michael Stipe
Johnny Greenwood
Miles Davis
Beethoven
Philip Glass
I like plenty of music, musicians, and music makers but I don’t think I have much of a desire to talk to any of them. Besides saying I like their music I really don’t have much to tell them or ask them.
Maybe Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes just because we’re close to the same age and grew up on the same side of Milwaukee.
I would like to talk to songwriters mostly, but it turns out the ones that come to mind are all notorious for being difficult characters, and maybe they all are not so keen on talking with a fan:
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Van Morrison
Joni Mitchell
Richard Thompson
Elvis Costello
I think the two I would like to talk to the most may also be the ones who would be a bit more open, but that’s just a guess (I always had the impression that both care about their fans: Pete wrote a whole double album about their fan base, and Ray the beautiful “Rock’n’Roll Fantasy” about the workings and frustrations of a band and their connection with the fans):
Ray Davies
Pete Townshend
