60 Minutes and "idiot savants" and child prodogies: Enough already!

Is it my imagination or has *60 Minutes * been doing a disproportionate number of segments about “idiot savants” and child prodogies lately? I just saw the opening of tonight’s broadcast, and there’re doing another one! What’s going on? Why the Rain Man Syndrome?

Seems to me that 60 Minutes is a lot less interesting over the last few years…

On top of which, it’s so easy to look like you’re exploiting the people when you’re doing a story like this. I saw the part of this piece where she was having him play lots of different things - Girl from Ipanema, Für Elise, Für Elise as if Mozart had written it, yada yada - and it rubbed me the wrong way.

They should have asked him to play something by The Doors.

I watched the first two stories, and they were really good. Then I had to remember what the third one was, and said about the same thing the OP said. Nothing against the kid, but man, seems like twice a year they do a story like this.
Turned the channel and watched PBS nature show on Cuba.

They definitely have their “rut” stories.

There was a time there when if they did one more story about kids from the ghetto playing golf/polo/shuffleboard/fencing/steeplechase/gardening I was going to kill someone.

That idiot-savant story looked like I’d seen it a million times before.
