79th Annual Acadamy Awards watch along/drink along thread.

I searched and didn’t see a watch along thread for the Oscars, so here it is.

Suggested drink word: “troops.”

Assorted thanks to God(s): Shot
Political references not related to film currently being honored: Shot
Sean Penn: Double bourbon

My beer is ready. Are we making any predictions?

Jim

I have some Pink Dragon Coolers, Frangelico and Sex on the Beach! Who want’s what?

Decaprio. Forrest W will get screwed b/c there have been too many biographic winners lately.

It’s 9am where I am. So I’ll play along with milk.

I was trying place where I had seen that hideous thing Jennifer Hudson is wearing, then it hit me; it was all the rage on the planet Remulak in the 70’s.

It’s 01:10 here. I’ve got tomorrow off and lots of Guinness in the fridge and pizza in the oven.

I just want Scorsese to win. If that happens I’ll be happy.

As to drink words I don’t really need them as I’ll just be drinking. But I’d guess “enviroment” and “climate” will be heard quite a few times.

Jessica Biel and Penelope Cruz are rocking my world

In the major acting categories, I’m predicting Whitaker, Mirren, Murphy amd Hudson. For best movie I’m predicting Babel but I’m hoping to be surprised and see scorcese get both Director and best Pic for The Departed.

How about throwing gambling into this thread? A website has, among other things, Martin Scorcese at 1/9 for Best Director, Happy Feet at 1/1 for Best Animated, and your Oscar Best Pics Nominees:

Babel 4/3
The Departed 1/6
Letters from Iwo Jima 9/1
Little Miss Sunshine 1/1
The Queen 20/1

Checking in…10:20am here in the “Land of the Rising Sun”

Whitaker, Mirren and Hudson I’ll go along with but I’d love to see fellow Irishman Peter O’Toole win.

If Marti wins the crowd will go mad.

That’s very high odds for The Queen. There could be a bit of vote splitting going on. I certainly wouldn’t put it at 20/1. It is more of a “talent” movie though.

I’d go for The Departed.

Aw, I loved seeing the Three Amigos together. “It would take six of us to make one Scorsese” So humble and fun.

Gah! It’s only on Sky Movies here. I’m restricted to the 5Live radio broadcast of people in the studio commenting on the live TV pics. Ah well.

I think the mere fact that it’s morning is a pathetic excuse to refrain from drinking.

Helen Mirren looks fabulous – sophisticated and beautiful!

I’m going for The Departed.

Just me, or does anybody else here cringe watching these red carpet interviews?

Cate Blanchett rocks though, as always.

My husband is out of town and our home theater system is broken down so I’m sitting here watching the awards (in HD anyway) at my computer. Helen Mirren was so beautiful in the pre-show. She was there a couple of years ago with her husband Taylor Hackford (up for best director for Ray) and she was hanging back in the background. Now it’s his turn to hang back. That also happened with William H. Macy (Best Supporting Actor: Fargo) and Felicity Huffman (Best Actress: Transamerica).

Funny all the people who’ve been nominated but haven’t won. Kevin O’Connell, Scorsese, Dicaprio, O’Toole, Thomas Newman…they’re in good company. Good intro!

Hated Nicole Kidman’s red dress with the big red bow.
Loved Helen Mirren’s dress.
Thought Rachel Weisz was smashingly beautiful.
Kate Winslet looked great.
Jennifer Hudson’s dress would have been better without the space age jacket.
I hate Ryan Seacrest.
Meryl could have shown more effort.
Gwyneth Paltrow looked bland, as usual.
Jennifer whatshername (Mark Anthony’s wife) looked beautiful.
Mark Wahlberg was yummy.
Penelope Cruse looked beautiful.
We’ve got a lot of African American, Spanish and British actors nominated. Diversity!

Drink word: "It’s an honor just to be in the same category as (one shot for each name mentioned).
