79th Annual Acadamy Awards watch along/drink along thread.

{{drooling over Ken}}

Ken Watanabe (robbed for Best Actor nom for Letters from Iwo Jima) and Catherine Denuve (what attic is that picture in? my god she’s beautiful) for Foreign Language Film.

Wait, a Foreign Language montage first

“We come from seperate sides of the war to bring this to you.” How do you know that Devenue wasn’t a Vichy collaborator?

The mention of Cinema Paradiso reminded me that “Alfredo” died this year. Sigh

OH MY GOD THEY SHOWED A SCENE FROM DERSU UZALA!

Sorry, but I love that film.
All these are such good movies

Complete list of foreign language Oscar winners. Italy has won the most.

Ach du lieben! Pan’s Labyrinth lost to a German film!

Clive Owen and Cate Blanchett (what a couple!) for Foreign Language Film

Winner: The Lives of Others

mobo, two sides of the WORLD, not war

Best Foreign Language Film: Please give it to Pan’s …

“Lives of Others” Germany :frowning:

Oh. I thought he was making some sort of reference to Letters from Iwo Jima.

No it means they are collecting all the hot air coming off the announcers and winners.

Wow. Big surprise.

Even Cate was taken aback. She was all ready to say Pan’s Labyrinth.

Ach, it’s Germany this year for THE LIVES OF OTHERS!

Cate looks fantastic, but then again I saw her in NOTES ON A SCANDAL today.

How come high-quality movies like Snakes on a Plane never get awards?

WOOHOO Deutschland!! Big surprise, but well-deserved, IMHO. If you haven’t seen it, “The Lives of Others” was great. Well done.

(Though I’m confused that the guy who accepted the award sounded like he had more an Irish accent than a German one…?)

George Clooney (swoon) for Best Supporting Actress

Winner: Jennifer Hudson, no surprise

Feh, the two from Babel deserved it.

God thanking shot

Oh yeah, God just hates Rinko, Cate, Abigail and Adriana. You’re real real special to Him.

How could Jennifer Hudson have been so surprised? She’s been the odds-on favorite for months now.

I’m glad for her, but I think the Japanese girl from “Babel” should have won it.

It really is sadistic, how these shows always show us some of the “losers” after the winner is announced. It’s like gaping at a horrific car wreck, isn’t it?

I don’t know how they manage to keep a rictus of appreciation on their faces as they graciously applaud the winner. They must be very good actors, after all.
