Go Randy Edelman!
God, I hate Tom Cruise. Up there having a private whisper with Sherry Lansing like she’s not accepting an award in front of a billion people.
Wow this has to be a Straight Dope Message Board. Only here would you get a reference to Leroy Anderson (“Typewriter Song”)
He also wrote Sleigh Ride and Synchopated Clock
Ellen having Spielberg take a picture of her and Eastwood, “for MySpace” HA!
Were you looking for something, anything to hate Tom Cruise for?
Okay, what is with DeGeneres’ outfits tonight?
Walloon
Looking for something for which to hate Tom Cruise??
Why no !!!
Gwen Paltrow for Cinematography
Winner: PAN’S LABYRINTH!!
Still shaking my head that Marie Antoinette won an Oscar. I’m so thrilled!
No, no; my hate is pre-existing.
Again, Hooray for Pan’s Labyrinth for cinematography.
Kudos to Paltrow for managing to say “cinematography” four or five times without stumbling once. I certainly couldn’t have done that.
God, STOP with the playing people offstage! I hate that!
Dancers doing LMS. Cute
She doesn’t do dresses. I don’t know if it’s because she’s lesbian, but she is very uncomfortable in them and just doesn’t wear them. She thought about doing the whole gown route for the show but decided that her personal level of discomfort at doing something that really isn’t “her” was too high. So she elected to do a variety of tuxedos – the tuxedo being the standard trouser-based formal wear, and the “variety of” being a nod to the variety of gowns female award-show hosts generally wear. She also thought about just doing one classic tuxedo a la a male host, but felt that would come across as too butch.
Source: People mag, the Ellen show, various Oscar articles, I don’t recall, but I’m pretty sure that’s right.
Re. Ellen’s tuxes – right, I figured out as much. (I don’t wear dresses, either.) I was wondering about her choices of maroon velvet and white-on-white satin [?]… it was looking like she’d escaped from the Edwardian period and a wedding reception, respectively.
Naomi Watts and Robert Downey Jr. for Visual Effects. Naomi’s so beautiful. Not a big year for Visual Effects. Only 3 nominees.
Winner: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Arr, Dead Man’s Chest fer Visual effects!
I liked the Wes Anderson American Express ad. (can you make a .357 with a bayonet?)
add my congrats for Pan’s Labyrinth.
Brian
POTC special effects award is well deserved. The movie is a POS* IMO but the effects were top class.
*I like the first one but the 2nd one was a mess.
What’s with the random factoid as they walk up?
“Bob Smith is a Sagittarius who can ride a unicycle!”
