8 limbed child born

Whoa! That was crazy! What a cute little girl. I hope the surgery goes well. The doctor doesn’t seem to be too concerned about it.

That’s it. Thank you for phrasing it for me. I had already used my 1+ intelligence spell yesterday

I think it’s likely that she has other internal issues. For example, where does her feces come out? How easy is it for her to stay clean? Does the parasitic twin half have it’s own maybe functioning waste system? They mention that it has it’s own kidney. Is is making urine and is the urine exiting consistently?

There are also logistical issues. With all that extra tissue so awkwardly placed, she’s prone to bedsores.

Those big brown eyes make me just want to cuddle her.

That’s lame. My dentist let me keep my premolars when I had them pulled.

Rob Zombie forsaw this event and wrote a song about it called “Spider-Baby (Yeah Yeah Yeah)”.

Well, at least she’s Forewarned…

Born two and a half years ago is more like it. The video (on CNN repeatedly today) is pretty cool. A team of 30 medical professionals working for 40 hours to literally cut off an arm and a leg… and doing it for free!

Well, if they did charge for the procedure, I’m sure it would have cost…well, you know. :stuck_out_tongue:

Imagine if she was also born with a birthmark in the shape of Jesus Christ. That would probably spark an international incident!

Twice as much as usual?

What so unusual about eight limbs?

What a cutie! snuggles her

(But I don’t understand how the extra arms could be growing out of her hips. Any geneticists / physiologists / etc. care to take a WAG?)

IANAD, but I think it’s beneficial to wait as long as possible to have surgery on babies/small children. I was born with Ventricular Septal Defect (hole in the heart between the ventricles) but they waited a year to operate in order to increase the chances of survival. The reason they operated when I was one years old was because I was “failing to thrive,” so I think they would have waited even longer if it were possible.

She really is a cute little kid.

Also, really creepy. Humans aren’t supposed to have that many appendages. I hope everything goes well for her.

She doesn’t have arms growing out of her hips - she’s got a partial second body fused to her; a parasitic twin. Take another look at the skeleton drawing in the link. The two bodies are joined at the pelvis. Those things that look like arms coming out of her hips are her own legs. Below that are the arms and legs of the twin.

That X-ray of the skeleton was just creepy. I know what I’m going as next Halloween

If one has to be born with extra appendages, it’s better to be cute…

30 medical personnel for 40 hours? Wow.

You like it spidey style?

Hey! Let’s be fair–sometimes it’s completely the mudder’s fault.

“It had the body of a spider, and the mind of a baby.”
“How do you know it’s a baby, and not just a spider?”
“They had it in a pram.”

I doff my hat to you, Cal. Well done.
